The stable version of Android 9 Pie was officially released on Tuesday for the Google Pixel/XL and the Google Pixel 2/XL. On the same date, Essential rolled out the Android Pie update for the Essential Phone. The OnePlus 6 is currently on Android Pie beta 3, while the Nokia 7 Plus just received Android Pie beta 4. An alpha build of Android Pie has leaked for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, and we should be receiving more news soon for other smartphones eligible for the Android P beta program. On the other hand, companies like Samsung, Huawei, LG, and HTC didn't participate in the Android 9 Pie beta program. HTC has now revealed which of its phones will receive the Android Pie update.

HTC has confirmed via Twitter that the company will roll out Android Pie updates for the HTC U11, HTC U11+, the Android One variant of the HTC U11 Life, and the company's current flagship, the HTC U12+. The company states that time frames for the update roll-out will be announced in due course, so it doesn't seem as if the Android 9 Pie update is especially imminent for HTC phones.

The HTC U12+ received a major update recently that fixed issues with its pressure-sensitive buttons, added auto zoom in the camera app, and brought more improvements. It should be noted that HTC has promised the Android Pie update for the Android One variant of the HTC U11 Life (that was sold in international markets), and not the HTC Sense-powered U11 Life (that was sold in the US). The Sense-powered U11 Life will probably not receive the Android Pie update as HTC hasn't included it in the list. It was released with Android Nougat while the Android One-powered international U11 Life shipped with Android Oreo out of the box.

HTC typically rolls out major Android version updates only to its flagship phones. The company's flagship phones have an update life-cycle of two years, which means that the HTC 10 will not receive the Android 9 Pie update.

It should also be noted that the HTC U Ultra is also missing in the list of HTC smartphones due to receive Android Pie. The U Ultra was launched in January 2017 with Android 7.0 Nougat and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 system-on-chip. The two-year support period for the U Ultra has not passed for this phone yet, but unfortunately for U Ultra users, it seems that HTC will skip on providing the Android Pie update for the device. If HTC doesn't provide Android Pie, the device (that was mistakenly labeled as a flagship at the time of launch) will have only received a single Android version update.
