Huawei announces new MateBook X with Intel Core i7-10510U and MateBook 14″ with AMD Ryzen 7 4800H
At the Huawei Developer Conference 2020, Huawei is making a whole bunch of announcements, ranging from smartwatches and earbuds to high-performance thin and light laptops. Huawei’s laptop lineup basically includes three series: MateBook, MateBook X/X Pro, and MateBook D. Now, the Chinese OEM is adding two more laptops under these series with the new MateBook X (2020) and MateBook 14 (2020).
MateBook X (2020)
The MateBook X lineup is the home to premium, thin-and-light notebooks that focus on enabling productivity for the end-user in a sleek form factor.
For the new MateBook X (2020), Huawei is bestowing upon the laptop a new Infinite FullView Display that gets rid of a lot of the metal frame on the edges to make more room for the glass. The end result is that you get a 90% screen-to-body ratio for the 13.8″ display. The display is 3000 x 2000 in resolution, 278 ppi, with a full 100% SRGB coverage. You also get a peak brightness of 400 nits on this touch screen LTPS display. Huawei is focusing on making the laptop thin and light and very portable, which is why the laptop is smaller than even an A4 paper with its 284.4mm x 206.7mm x 13.6mm dimensions and 1kg weight.
The full-size keyboard on the new Huawei MateBook X (2020) comes with a 1.3mm key travel and backlight. The touchpad is also getting a size bump with a 26% increase in total area. Taking care of haptics on the touchpad are eight piezoelectric plates for full haptic feedback. Since the keyboard area doesn’t really have a whole lot of space left, the speakers reside under the Shift keys. The notebook also comes with dual microphones on the edge closest to you, which should come in handy for communication through video calls. You also get a fingerprint sensor in the power button, and a pop-up camera residing under a button on the keyboard. Cooling duties on this fanless notebook is handled by a combination of the thermally conductive hinge, vapor chamber heat dissipation modules, and multiple graphite layers.
For the internals, Huawei will offer up to the 10th generation Intel Core i7-10510U CPU and up to 16GB RAM options. This is also Huawei’s first laptop with Wi-Fi 6 for 3x faster theoretical peak speeds. There is a 42Wh battery on board, which should last you up to 9 hours for FHD video playback — enough to get a lot of productivity-centric office work done across days. As far as ports are concerned, you get 2x USB Type-C ports, and either can be used for charging; and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The MateBook X (2020) also comes with a few nifty software tricks. You get Huawei Share built-in, enabling multi-screen collaboration features between Huawei and Honor devices with EMUI 10 and the notebook. The laptop will come with Windows 10 Home Edition.
Pricing and availability information is not yet known, but the MateBook X (2020) will be offered in Silver Frost and Forest Green colors.
Huawei MateBook 14 (2020)
As the name implies, the MateBook 14 (2020) is the newest 14″ touchscreen laptop with a 2160 x 1440 resolution display with 100% sRGB coverage and a 90% screen-to-body ratio.
