Update (10/21/19 @ 1:05 PM ET): According to Huawei Netherlands, this is not the final version of the update and EMUI 10 has not officially begun rolling out yet.

Huawei has been working on its latest EMUI 10, based on Android 10, for quite some time now. At IFA 2019 last month, Huawei shared the update roadmap for 13 Huawei and Honor phones that would receive the Android 10-based EMUI 10 update. Earlier this week the company added 20 more devices to its update roadmap, bringing the total device count to 33. Now, Huawei Mate 20 Pro users residing in the Netherlands have begun receiving an update to Android 10 based on EMUI 10, according to Droidapp. The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro were the first devices to receive an Open Beta of EMUI 10 based Android 10 and now the company is extending the new Android version to its last year's flagship.

The update carries version 10.0.0.136 and is fairly substantial in size, weighing in at 4.4GB. Along with the usual jump to EMUI 10, the update also includes the September 2019 security patch. EMUI 10 brings along numerous UI changes to the table including a new magazine-style design, a simplified Settings menu, system-wide dark mode, redesigned Quick Settings panel, and new camera UI among other things.

Currently, the update seems to be limited to‌ the Netherlands but we can expect the company to extend the rollout to other European regions in the coming days. Besides the Mate 20 series, other devices slated to receive at least an Open Beta build of EMUI 10 this month include the Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, Honor V20 and Honor Magic 2.

The US‌ trade ban has barred Huawei from bundling Google apps and services on its smartphones. Fortunately for older Huawei phones, they will continue to receive new Android OS updates with Google services as the trade restrictions don’t affect the devices launched before the ban. So users can expect Huawei to roll out the updates according to its original timeline, irrespective of the political situation that affects newer devices.

Update: Not Official

Huawei Netherlands reached out to Androidworld and explained that the EMUI 10 update that some Huawei Mate 20 Pro users received was not final. The build they received was internal software based on Android 10. The official rollout has not yet begun. That won't come until after the Mate 20 Pro has joined the beta program, which also hasn't started yet.
