Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X update optimizes face unlock and camera and brings December patches
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Huawei Mate 20 X are two flagship Android smartphones that released in 2018 from the Chinese technology giant. They both have the same triple rear camera setup, HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset, and software, but the Mate 20 Pro has an in-display fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, 40W fast wired charging, and 3D facial recognition while the Mate 20 X supports a stylus and has a much larger display. An update is rolling out now to both devices, optimising face unlock, the camera, and brings last month’s December security patches. The two build numbers are below.
Huawei Mate 20 X build number: 184.108.40.206(C636E3R1P11)
Huawei Mate 20 Pro build number: 220.127.116.11(C185E10R1P16)
First and foremost, face unlock on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is excellent, but there’s nothing wrong with trying to improve on it further. Given that the company is touting their face unlock as being superior to others, it’s important to get it right. The Mate 20 X’s face unlock is purely software based, though, so it’s not as secure as the solution on the Mate 20 Pro.
Any security updates are welcome in this regard, as it’s actually designed for being a primary way of unlocking your device. On top of that, you get a number of camera improvements including more natural and authentic colours. Given that both devices were already camera beasts, it’s hard to imagine them getting even better than they already are. Finally, the December 2018 security patches are also included. It’s interesting to note that the January patches are already out, so Huawei is technically behind on them here.
The update is rolling out now and appears to be getting sent out via a staged rollout. That means that you may not get the update for a few days, as a greater percentage of devices get the update over time. Companies do this so if there are any problems, the rollout can be cancelled.
