Huawei Mate 20 Pro can wirelessly charge the Freebuds 2 Pro wireless earbuds
Huawei is preparing to announce the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro next month as they confirmed during their HiSilicon Kirin 980 event last month. As usual, however, we already know quite a bit about the new devices such as the basic hardware specifications as well as the design. The Huawei Mate 20 series should be the first commercially-available Android phones to launch with a 7nm chipset. But the Huawei Mate 20 isn’t the only product that Huawei will showcase during its event next month. They’re also planning to launch their own take on Apple’s AirPods wireless earbuds, which they’re calling Freebuds 2 Pro.

The Freebuds 2 Pro look very similar to Apple’s AirPods down to the shape of the actual earbuds, the “stem,” and the charging case. But these are arguably more feature rich than Apple’s wireless earbuds. One of the biggest features of the Freebuds 2 Pro is wireless charging. The Freebuds 2 Pro integrate Qi wireless charging which lets you wirelessly charge your earbuds by simply placing the charging case on top of a wireless charging pad. It doesn’t end there, however. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro itself doubles as a wireless charging pad for the Freebuds 2 Pro, so you can simply place the charging case on the back of the Mate 20 Pro to have them charged.

Other features of the Freebuds 2 Pro include Bluetooth 5.0 support, noise-cancellation, support for the Hi-Res Wireless Audio protocol, and bone conduction to improve voice recognition and voice quality. They are expected to be announced together with the Huawei Mate 20 and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro on October 16th and should retail for around $150-$160. While arguably expensive, they seem to be a pretty solid, fully wireless earbuds alternative, and we should get to know more about them soon.
