Huawei's custom Android interface, called EMUI, has an impressively long list of features that get mistaken for gimmicks. The experience can sometimes be overwhelming because of the sheer number of features like Torch or Mirror that are present as individual apps. But with its increasing popularity in markets outside of Asia – especially Europe, the OEM has been working to refine the software experience. EMUI 9.1, first announced with Huawei P30 Pro, brought a refined interface including flatter icons, GPU Turbo 3.0, and useful AR features. Now, with the launch of the first Android Q beta for non-Pixel smartphones, the company is already announcing its plans about the rollout of the next version of EMUI.

Huawei took to Weibo to announce that EMUI based on Android Q will be available immediately after Google releases the update for its Pixel lineup of smartphones. The Huawei and Honor devices that will receive the update include Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20X, Mate 20 RS, Huawei P30 Pro, P30, Honor View20 (V20), and Honor Magic 2.

EMUI 9.1 is majorly inspired by the marvels of nature so it is possible to see that philosophy being extended further. It will also interesting to see Huawei's take on new features from Android Q including the system-wide dark theme, better permission controls, the revamped navigation gestures, smarter Smart Replies, variable vibration intensity, parental controls, and much more.

Huawei has neither revealed if any new feature will be coming to this upcoming version EMUI nor hinted at any visual that will be available with Android Q. The Android Q beta, which is currently available for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, does not reveal this either since it typically dons the stock Android aesthetics.

If you're a developer willing to try the Android Q beta on your Mate 20 Pro, download Huawei's Beta FUT app from this link. Next, sign in with your Huawei ID and navigate to Join Project>Available projects>HuaweiMate20pro Beta project and you'll receive Android Q developer preview updates via OTA. For more information, you can refer to the dedicated post on the company's Consumer Forums.

Note: Huawei has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloader of their devices can’t be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
