[Update: Canada too] The LG G7 is finally getting Android Pie in the US & Europe
Unless things take a turn for the better, slow updates from LG should be expected from here on out. We recently reported on the Android Pie update that finally hit the U.S. market for LG V40 users. Most OEMs go with the strategy of updating their newest smartphones first so that update gave people hope for the LG G7 ThinQ. It’s been less than two weeks and we are just now starting to see LG G7 customers receiving their Android 9 update in the United States and across Europe.
We are glad that LG has finally begun its official rollout of Android 9 Pie for the LG G7 ThinQ, but many of us had assumed it was going to be released sooner. Google has been working closely with OEMs to get current devices testing the next version of Android. With the latest update to the Android Q beta, a number of new OEMs jumped on board to test out the update. This allows those companies to work on new updates more quickly and that is what we saw late last year when Korean LG G7 owners were able to join in on a beta test of Android Pie.
This early beta testing led many people to hope that LG would be releasing the official update faster than normal. Many G7 ThinQ owners will say it’s been too long of a wait but many will be happy to know that it has finally come to an end. So far, we have seen reports of the Android Pie update landing on LG G7 owners who live in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland, the U.K., and in the United States we’ve seen it on Verizon and Metro. It’s clear the rollout is picking up speed right now so if you own this smartphone then you’ll want to keep an eye out for the update.
Update: Canada too
Android Pie has begun rolling out to the LG G7 (LMG710AWM) in Canada. Currently, the update is only rolling out to unlocked models, but Rogers and Telus may be getting the update in the next few days as well. The Android Pie update also includes the May 2019 security patches.
