Upate 1/7: LG has officially announced the LG Q9 in Korea. Details and specs below.

As sad as it is, it's common for smartphone OEMs to take previously released phones and launch them again under a different name. Sometimes there are specific circumstances for this practice. For instance, some companies have a unique brand in certain regions. Therefore it makes sense for them to take a phone they are already selling in other countries and slap the region-specific brand name on it. It helps to reduce cost, resources, time, and really only adds more work to the marketing department. It looks as if we're currently seeing LG rebranding one of their previously released phones, the LG G7 Fit, and giving it a new name as the LG Q9.

LG has been in dire straights when it comes to bringing in profits via their mobile division so being able to save as much money as possible is a good strategy for them. A few months ago we reported on two new LG smartphones that the company branded with their G7 series. We had the LG G7 One, which is the LG's first Android One smartphone, but they also revealed a device called the LG G7 Fit. Specs of the fit include a 6.1-inch QHD+ 3120 x 1440 pixel display, the Snapdragon 821 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and a 3,000mAh capacity battery.

This phone, the LG G7 Fit, carried the codename Falcon and we have recently discovered another LG smartphone via the Android Enterprise Device Catalog that carries the same codename. However, instead of it being called the LG G7 Fit it has the name LG Q9. Now, some specs are different here, the LG G7 Fit has a 3120 x 1440 pixel display while the specs we're seeing for the LG Q9 in the Google Play Device Catalog show it having a 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution display at 6.1-inch (although the listed specs aren't guaranteed to be accurate).

Still, we were able to find some alleged press renders of the LG Q9 that make me think about the LG G7 Fit.
