Another year, another flagship iteration. With every such step, a product that was once the top of its game gives way to a newer generation. Consumers who purchased the previous flagship now have to live with their product not being first priority anymore.

Such was also the case with the LG G4  and the LG V10. Both these smartphones belonged to the top of the pack when they were released in 2015. But with the natural passage of time and evolution of technology, these very capable products are now left behind:

The LG G4 and the LG V10 were not on LG's queue to receive Android 7.0 Nougat. These phones launched with a version of Android Lollipop, and they did receive their Marshmallow updates. But beyond that, they were not receiving an official Nougat build:

We decided not to provide Android 7.0 (7.0 & 7.1) update for G4 and V10. As a result of internal compatibility with the new Android system, it was concluded that it is difficult to maintain optimized performance.

However, a strong "consumer rebellion" has forced the company to rethink its decision. LG officials now mention that they will release Android 7.0 Nougat for the G4 and V10. The update is now scheduled for Q3 2017, but the schedule mentioned is for the Korean model. International as well as regional schedules are not mentioned, but the update will likely not arrive before Q3 2017.

The phones were released in 2015, so LG dropping update support would have meant that the phones were not going to be updated for the full two years that we expect flagships to endure. The decision making process at LG has pushed the update back to the point where we will have a new Android version around the time we see the update --but as the saying goes, better late than never.
