AOSP based versions of Android have a lot of fans. Pure Android is fast and has no additional applications or services that clutter the user experience. While we see a lot of Android Pie ROMs popping up lately, Android Oreo is still a new thing for some devices. The latest device that joined the Android Oreo family is Honor 5X, which has just received an unofficial port of LineageOS 15.1.

The Honor 5X was released by Huawei's subbrand in January 2016. Unlike current models, which use Kirin SoC, it was released with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 616. Initially, it was running EMUI 3.1, which is a customized version of Android 5.1 Lollipop. The device has since received an update to Android Marshmallow. Unfortunately, Android 6.0 was the last update released for this phone by Huawei. Luckily, thanks to the efforts of XDA Senior Member BadDaemon, Honor 5X users can have the predecessor of Android 9.0 Pie installed on their smartphones.

To flash the Oreo build, you must flash the Marshmallow build that is compatible with this ROM. Your device must also have an unlocked bootloader. If you haven't done that yet, you might be out of luck.

Those of you, who seek for a more feature-rich ROM might also give a try to crDroid, which is also available thanks to XDA Senior Member coldhans. You can download either ROMs by visiting their forum threads.

Note: Huawei has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloader of the Honor 5X can no longer be unlocked, which means that users cannot flash Magisk, TWRP, or custom ROMs.
