Android enthusiasts tend to be the last group of people who cling to features that OEMs deem "unnecessary." We've seen this over and over again. The 3.5mm headphone jack is a hot issue right now, but one that seems to be flying under the radar is the notification LED. This feature that was a mainstay for years is slowly dying out and an app called Pixel Pulse tries to bring it back.

Recent phones like the Pixel 3 and OnePlus 6T don't have a notification LED, but a new app called Pixel Pulse can bring a similar feature to those phones. This app, created by XDA Senior Member grokus, creates a "pulsing" ambient display. Instead of having the ambient display on all the time, this app will "pulse" it on an interval, sort of like a pulsing notification LED.

You can choose the interval for the pulsing and which apps you want to see notifications from. If you unlock the paid features, you can even customize things like colors and notification icons. As mentioned, the app is for the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and OnePlus 6T. I tested it on a Pixel 3 and you need to turn off the Ambient display but enable wake screen on notifications. The app will basically just repeatedly wake the ambient display and cycle through your notifications.
