MIUI 10 Global Stable rolling out for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and Xiaomi Mi 8
Xiaomi is one of the world’s largest smartphone vendors. In terms of software updates, Xiaomi is diligent with MIUI updates, although Android version updates tend to be slow. In Xiaomi’s case, however, MIUI updates are more important for Xiaomi phones than Android version updates. The Chinese version of the latest version of MIUI—MIUI 10—was announced in May, while MIUI 10 Global was announced in June at the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 event.
MIUI 10 China Stable ROMs are now available for many devices. Xiaomi stated that MIUI 10 Global Stable ROMs would start rolling out in September, and right on time, we have seen official ROMs be released for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi Mi Mix, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2.
The Global Stable nomenclature is made of two parts. Firstly, this is a Global ROM, which means that it comes with Google Play services and a lot more languages when compared with the China ROM. This is because it’s intended for a global audience, whereas the China ROM is intended for Chinese users as it doesn’t come with Google Play services and language selection is limited to English and Chinese. There are also feature differences between the two ROMs, as some MIUI features are China-only. Devices sold internationally are sold with the MIUI Global ROM. Secondly, the Stable nomenclature means that this is the update that will be rolled out for all users.
Users of the Xiaomi Mi 8 (device code-name: dipper) and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S (device code-name: polaris) can now directly download MIUI 10 Global Stable ROMs from the links below. These ROMs are based on Android Oreo, and they are recovery ROMs. Other Xiaomi phones should also be getting Global Stable ROMs soon.
