Thanks to Google's recent efforts to improve Android on large-screen devices, Android tablets are making a comeback. The company introduced a bunch of interface changes with the latest Android OS to enhance user experience on Android tablets and foldables, and it has since updated several first-party apps to make better use of the extra screen real estate. Furthermore, it has laid down new guidelines to help developers build scalable apps that work well on Android tablets, resulting in the Play Store now having more apps that support native scaling on Android tablets than it has ever had before.

While Android on tablets still isn't perfect, the software has matured to a point where it's good enough for most users. As a result, a growing number of Android OEMs are entering (or re-entering) the tablet space. In addition, Google itself has released a brand-new tablet that will likely help the company further enhance the software experience. If you're looking for a new tablet and are open to purchasing one that isn't an iPad, here's our selection of the best Android tablets currently on sale.

Our favorite Android tablets overall

samsung galaxy tab s9 plus
Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus
Best overall

A well-rounded Android tablet experience

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ is the best Android tablet currently on the market. It features a 12.4-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy SoC, 12GB RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and S Pen support.

Pros
  • Fast and smooth performance
  • Impressive high refresh rate AMOLED display
  • Feature-rich software experience
Cons
  • Premium price
  • Not much of an upgrade over the Galaxy Tab S8+

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ was our favorite Android tablet so far, but its successor has now taken its place. Although it's a minor upgrade over the last-gen model, the all-new Galaxy Tab S9+ is the Android tablet to get if you want the latest specs. The tablet still features a 12.4-inch AMOLED panel with a peak refresh rate of 120Hz, but it now offers adaptive refresh rate support from 60-120Hz. On the inside, it packs Qualcomm's latest flagship chipset for top-notch performance, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

These two upgrades make the Galaxy Tab S9+ a better buy than the Galaxy Tab S8+, as they result in better performance and a longer-lasting battery. Even though the newer model features the same 10,900mAh battery pack, the adaptive refresh rate support makes it much more power efficient. Sadly, the Galaxy Tab S9+ still offers 45W wired fast charging, so getting the tablet juiced up will take about the same time as before.

The Galaxy Tab S9+ runs Samsung's One UI 5.1 based on Android 13, which includes a ton of useful features to help you make great use of the large display. In addition, the tablet offers Samsung DeX support, letting you connect an external keyboard and mouse for a productivity-centric desktop-like experience. It even offers S Pen support, making it a great buy for artists and students, and it comes with an S Pen in the box, so you don't have to purchase one separately. We've rounded up the best Galaxy Tab S+ accessories we can find so you can take full advantage of this excellent tablet.

But it's not all about work with the Galaxy Tab S9+. The tablet also features HDR10+ support and an impressive quad-speaker array, making it just as great for watching your favorite movies or TV shows. And if you're someone who's often on the go, the Galaxy Tab S9+ is a no-brainer, as it's the only model in the Galaxy Tab S9 lineup that offers optional 5G support.

Google Pixel Tablet
Best for most people

Impressive software, great performance, and value for money

The Google Pixel Tablet is an excellent tablet with the most polished and optimized Android software for a widescreen. The included speaker dock adds to the overall experience.

Pros
  • Feature-rich software with handy smart home controls
  • Great price
  • Included speaker dock
Cons
  • 60Hz LCD panel
  • Not the best performance
  • No cellular connectivity

The Google Pixel Tablet is inarguably the best Android tablet for most people as it promises a great software experience, top-notch performance, and a host of handy features at a relatively affordable price. It packs Google's flagship Tensor G2 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, making it great for both content consumption and productivity tasks. The software optimizations and machine learning features from Google further enhance the experience and give you access to a host of handy tools you won't get with any other Android tablet on the market.

The Pixel Tablet features a substantial 10.95-inch LCD panel that refreshes at 60Hz. While it isn't as good as the high refresh rate AMOLED panel on the Galaxy Tab S8+, it should be good enough for basic tasks like web browsing and content consumption. The tablet should also easily last you a full day of use, thanks to the onboard 27Wh battery, which you can charge using the included Charging Speaker Dock or via a USB-C charger.

The Charging Speaker Dock bundled with the Pixel Tablet gives it another significant edge over other tablets on this list, making it a great buy for content consumption and smart home controls. Google has optimized the tablet's software to show you a bunch of useful information on the screen when it's docked and give you quick access to controls for smart home devices around your house.

Other noteworthy features include two 8MP cameras for the occasional photos and high-quality video calls, a quad-speaker system for great audio output, and Google's Titan M2 chip for enhanced security. The only downside to the Pixel Tablet is that it doesn't offer cellular connectivity, so you shouldn't buy it if you plan on using it to stream content or play online games on the go.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra tablet front and back
Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
Best premium tablet

For an over-the-top experience

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is Samsung's highest-end 2023 tablet. It offers a gorgeous 14.6-inch display, S Pen support, 5G connectivity, and much more! It's available in Beige and Graphite colorways.

Pros
  • Snappy performance
  • Massive high refresh rate AMOLED display
  • Great software experience
Cons
  • Could be unwieldy for some
  • Expensive

If money is no object and you want the absolute best on offer, you can't go wrong with the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. It offers a couple of extras compared to the Galaxy Tab S9+ and costs a few hundred dollars more, which is why it's not our top pick. But if you're someone who wants all the bells and whistles, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a great buy. It has a large 14.6-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 60-120Hz variable refresh rate support, and it also packs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset.

The SoC is paired with an insane 15GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, and a massive 11,200mAh battery with 45W fast charging support. Like the Galaxy Tab S9+, you get Samsung's One UI 5.1 based on Android 13 on the software front, S Pen support for all your note-taking or drawing needs, and Samsung DeX support for enhanced productivity. You also get the same quad-speaker setup and HDR10+ support for an immersive binge-watching experience.

In addition to the larger display and battery, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra features more cameras than the Galaxy Tab S9+. It has dual camera setups on the front and back. The rear-facing setup consists of a 13MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, while the one up front has a 12MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. While these extras are nice to have, they come at a hefty price and make the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra a little less practical than the Galaxy Tab S9+ for most people. If you're on the fence about Samsung's top-of-the-line tablet, check out our review of the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra to know if it's worth your money. If you decide to snatch up this powerful tablet, make sure you outfit it with these excellent accessories to fully unlock its capabilities.

OnePlus Pad rear panel with circular camera module in Halo Green
OnePlus Pad
Best affordable flagship tablet

Top-tier hardware at a great price

The OnePlus Pad offers a sleek look and plenty of power, making it a great debut tablet from the company. It's powered by OxygenOS-based on Android 13, plus some custom software features to make everything from browsing the web to productivity a breeze.

Pros
  • Attractive price
  • Great performance
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Not the best software experience
  • Needs better stylus support
  • No included accessories

OnePlus is known for making some of the best Android phones and is one of the latest Android OEMs to jump on the tablet bandwagon. Its first tablet, the OnePlus Pad, is a great buy for those who want excellent performance at a reasonable price. The tablet packs MediaTek's flagship Dimensity 9000 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, to deliver impressive performance in games, productivity tasks, multitasking, and content consumption. Its large 11.61-inch display adds to the overall fast and smooth experience, as it offers 144Hz refresh rate support and a 2800x2000p resolution.

OnePlus has cut some corners to keep the tablet's price low, like including an LCD instead of an AMOLED panel and not bundling any accessories, but that should be a fair compromise for those who only care about performance. To make up for the shortcomings, OnePlus has equipped the tablet with a 9,510mAh battery that offers all-day battery life and charges up faster than any of the other tablets on this list, thanks to the 67W fast charging support.

For imaging, the OnePlus Pad sports a 13MP rear-facing camera, which is decent enough for capturing images in brightly lit environments and capturing 4K video at 30fps. It's accompanied by an 8MP front-facing camera that supports 1080p video capture at 30fps, which is great for video calls. Like most of the other premium Android tablets currently on the market, the OnePlus Pad features a quad-speaker setup that delivers impressive audio output. You also get stylus support and Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.

Like the Pixel Tablet, the OnePlus Pad lacks cellular connectivity. However, the feature is available — just currently disabled. So it shouldn't be your preferred pick if you plan on using the tablet on the go with an active internet connection. But if that's not the case, the OnePlus Pad is a great Android tablet for the price.

lenovo-p11-pro-gen-2
Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2
Best mid-range tablet

An affordable tablet for light workloads

The Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is a decent tablet for media consumption and basic tasks, packing a MediaTek Kompanio 1300T, up to 6GB of RAM, and an 8,200 mAh battery. It runs Android 12L, too.

Pros
  • Great for media consumption and web browsing
  • Decent battery life
  • Precision stylus support
Cons
  • Not the best performance
  • Below-average cameras

The Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is really as good as it gets for a tablet with mid-range specifications. Lenovo is a pretty big fish in the Android ecosystem, being the parent company of Motorola and also making some smartphones of its own. The company occasionally makes tablets, and the Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is currently the best one in its lineup. Featuring an 11.5-inch OLED display and internals such as a MediaTek Kompanio 1300T and up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is decidedly a mid-range device at heart, but it excels in aspects such as display quality and battery life.

The Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is the perfect buy for those who just want a large-screen device for media consumption, thanks to its high-resolution display and large battery life. While it isn't the best performer, the Kompanio 1300T is decent enough for light workloads like web browsing, checking emails, and playing casual arcade games. The tablet features a 13MP rear-facing camera and an 8MP selfie shooter. These cameras might seem like they're as good as the ones on the OnePlus Pad, but the actual camera performance isn't all that great, and you should keep your expectations in check.

The Lenovo Pad P11 Pro Gen 2 runs Android 12L, features 20W fast charging and is a great media consumption device. Lenovo is trying to fill a gap here since there are relatively very few actual tablets with these specifications, and it's done that well. While we would've liked to see improvements in its software, it's a great option in this spec range. If you can get a good deal on it, then it just gets even better.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE render
Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE
Best affordable flagship

Entry-level hardware at an attractive price

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE features a vibrant 10.9-inch display, Exynos 1380 chipset, and versatile features, providing users with a compelling blend of fair performance and affordability in a flagship tablet.

Pros
  • Amazing value for money
  • A lightweight device
  • Good display specs
Cons
  • Performance isn't the best compared to other flagship devices
  • Slightly lower battery

If you are interested in getting a Samsung Tablet but short on cash, this might be the best option for you. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE was just announced recently at a staggering price of $450 for 128 GB + 6GB RAM version and $520 for 256 GB + 8GB RAM variant. But, there is an option to extend the storage to 1TB with a MicroSD card. That being said, let’s evaluate why it is one of the best budget android tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE strikes a balance between sturdiness and portability. It comes with a sleek glass front, and an aluminum back to exude a modern design. At just 523 grams, it is reasonably lighter than many other tablets, including Samsung Tab S9, S9+ and S9 Ultra. Plus, the design is IP-68 water-resistant as well as dust-resistant.

Coming to the display, the S9 FE features a 10.9-inch IPS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate. While the tablet does not sport a 120Hz display or an AMOLED screen (like many other tablets), these compromises are justifiable given the tablet's reasonable pricing. The 1440 x 2304 pixel resolution, at a 16:10 ratio (~249 ppi density) is pretty great.

For a Samsung tablet costing you just $450, it's impressive that there is not much of a compromise on battery. While the Tab S9 has an 8400mAh battery, the S9 FE has 8000mAh under the hood. Not bad for a budget device? As for the performance, the Tab S9 FE has a Exynos 1380 (5 nm) along with Mali-G68 MP5 GPU. These features are fine, but again, not for someone looking at a super-cool performance.

Lastly, the camera specs are awesome given the price point. The primary camera is 8 MP (wide) and offers video capabilities at up to 4K@30fps. The selfie camera is even better at 12 MP (ultrawide).

All these aspects make the Tab S9 FE a compelling choice especially for those who are looking for a flagship device on a budget.

Fire Max 11
Amazon Fire Max 11
Best for media

A portable media streaming device

Amazon Fire Max 11 is a budget-friendly tablet providing base-level features that make it an affordable choice. Its substantial battery life enhances its suitability for travel, ensuring reliable usage on the go.

Pros
  • Expansive 10,000mAh battery
  • Magnetic accessory connector
  • Offered with productivity bundles
Cons
  • Lower pixels-per-inch
  • Basic camera specs only

The Amazon Fire Max is a super affordable tablet, especially as we see against the North American Standards, starting at $230. But, don't just be impressed by the low price until you hear it all.

Starting off with the good, there’s a pretty amazing 10,000mAh battery which will definitely keep your tab up and running for over 7 hours (depends more on the usage though). The Fire Max 11 is powered by Mediatek MTK8188J chipset with an Octa-core configuration and a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU so you can expect some fair performance but not so much for extensive 3D rendering, or other related tasks. Even the RAM is just 4GB so multitasking can be a mess.

The Amazon Fire Max 11 presents an expansive 11-inch screen with a 2000 x 1200 resolution. However, it does have a lower ~212 ppi which means you won’t experience extraordinary colors and vibrancy as in other tablets. Nonetheless, the 11-inch screen at such a low price is still a huge point.

In terms of storage, users can choose between models offering 64GB with 4GB RAM or 128GB with 4GB RAM. Annoying part? To get rid of forceful lock screen ads, you have to pay an extra $15. Productivity bundles are also available but they just rack up the price.

Notably, it features a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG support and a magnetic accessory connector. However, it lacks a 3.5mm audio jack.

As for the camera specs, both, front and back, cameras offer 8MP with 1080p video recording. The primary camera also offers AF.

In a nutshell, I’d say this is a device for someone who does not really use their tablet as a primary device. Anyone looking to kill some spare time on Netflix or Amazon Prime might find it as a more friendly choice. Plus, with the better battery support, it becomes ideal for staying connected to your work while traveling.

A render of the Amazon Fire HD 8 Pro kids tablet in blue color.
Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro (2022)
Best for children

An affordable ruggedized tablet for kids

The Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro is probably the best balance of performance, price, size, and durability for children aged 6 to 12, with a quad-core CPU running at 2.0 GHz, up to 32 GB of storage, and an 8-inch display for playing some light games

Pros
  • Rugged
  • Decent display
  • Child-friendly design
Cons
  • No Google apps
  • Can't run high-end games

Finally, if you're a parent and want to get your kid their first tablet, the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro is an excellent option. We chose the HD 8 version because we think that it's the sweet spot between specifications, storage, size, and pricing for most kids. Specs-wise, it's pretty much an Amazon Fire HD 8. One of the differences between the Pro model over the regular Amazon Kids Tablets is it doesn't come with an overly thick case. Instead, it is a thinner but still durable kids-friendly case to protect against drops and bumps, and it also comes with an adjustable kickstand. Amazon also offers a 2-year "worry-free" warranty, meaning that if your kid manages to break it, you can return it, and Amazon will replace it for free.

The Fire HD 8 Kids Pro features an 8-inch IPS panel with a 1280x800p resolution, MediaTek's entry-level MT8169A SoC, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It offers an all-day battery that lasts up to 13 hours on a single charge, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 5 connectivity, and Bluetooth 5.2 support. The tablet comes with a free subscription to Amazon Kids+ for a year, which will give your child access to a wide range of content from services like National Geographic, Marvel, Lego, Audible, and Disney. It also includes a bunch of free games, but the tablet's specifications aren't enough for anything demanding.

Like the Fire HD 10 Plus, you don't get access to Google services with the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro, so you can't download apps from the Play Store. While that may be a downside for some, it could also be a boon as you won't have to worry about any pesky parental controls. The Fire HD 8 Kids Pro tablet comes with the software setup for kids over the age of nine, and while there are still plenty of parental controls, the interface will be closer to what you see on a non-kids tablet. If you have younger kids, you can go for the standard kid's tablet, and when they get older, enable the appropriate age level in the settings.

Our favorite Android tablets in 2023

Samsung has been the king of Android tablets for quite some time now. The Galaxy Tab S9 series can check the box for all users regardless of their use case. While the Tab S9 Ultra is the tablet for the most demanding users, the Tab S9+ is our favorite pick as it strikes a great balance between performance and price.

With the Galaxy Tab S9+, you get an impressive, high refresh rate AMOLED display that's great for gaming and content consumption, a powerful Qualcomm chipset that can blaze through even the most demanding of tasks, an optimized software experience with DeX mode and handy S Pen features, and exceptional battery life. The tablet is also reasonably priced for the hardware and features on offer, landing it in the top spot. But if you think it's a bit on the expensive side, you can also consider the Google Pixel Tablet and the OnePlus Pad.

The Pixel Tablet is fantastic for its price, offering flagship-level performance, a great software experience, an included speaker dock, and handy smart home features. But it doesn't feature a high refresh rate display, making it a bad pick for gaming. That's where the OnePlus Pad's 144Hz display takes the cake, and you should get it over the Pixel Tablet if you want to enjoy games like Genshin Impact on a big screen.

samsung galaxy tab s9 plus
Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ is the latest middle device in the premium Galaxy Tab range. It's got a 12.4-inch AMOLED 2X screen running at 60-120Hz, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy SoC, and up to 512GB of storage.
