Nokia Camera with Pro Camera mode ported to Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and more
Earlier this year we learned that HMD Global was bringing the well-known Nokia Pro Camera mode to the Nokia Camera application for their Zeiss optics branded Android smartphones. This was first announced for the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco and has since been released for the Nokia 7 and the Nokia 8. The company is working to optimize the Nokia Camera application for their other Nokia devices as well, but the Pro Camera mode may not arrive on their other Nokia-branded devices. If you would rather not wait, XDA Senior Member hikari_calyx has released a port of the Nokia Camera app with Nokia Pro Camera mode for other Nokia-branded smartphones including the Nokia 1, Nokia 2 (2017 and 2018), Nokia 3 (2017 and 2018), Nokia 5, and Nokia 6.
The Windows Phone Nokia Lumia devices were well-known for their great camera quality so news of the Nokia Camera’s Pro Camera mode landing on these Android devices has been very well received. The camera is so highly regarded that XDA Recognized Contributor linuxct did the work to port the application to non-Nokia smartphones. Sadly, this port can’t be installed on Nokia-branded smartphones because it uses the same package name as the original camera application, so attempting to install it will result in an error. To fix this, hikari_calyx took linuxct’s port and changed the package name so it doesn’t conflict with the original Nokia camera application. This means the application can be installed alongside the stock camera application on all Nokia smartphones.
Instead of waiting for HMD Global to bring this new camera update to their other Nokia smartphones, you can now grab the port directly from our Nokia 6 forum. As of right now, the application has been tested on the Nokia 1, Nokia 2, Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 5, and the Nokia 6 with varying degrees of success. According to hikari_calyx, the camera app works without any problems on the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. However, the remaining devices have the following problems:
- Nokia 1 (ISO, shutter timer not working)
- Nokia 2 (2017) (ISO, Focus, and Shutter timer not working)
- Nokia 3 (2017) (ISO and Shutter timer not working)
