Nubia Red Magic 3 gaming phone with a 90Hz display and Snapdragon 855 launches in India

The category of gaming smartphones is relatively newer but is slowly catching up with brands like Razer and ASUS, which are typically known for dazzling PC gaming hardware, dipping their toes into the market. ZTE’s Nubia has been an early entrant in the category which first released the Nubia Red Magic last year. The latest of Nubia’s gaming smartphone lineup is the Red Magic 3, which was unveiled in China back in April followed by a global announcement last month. Now, the Red Magic 3 (our first impressions) is coming to India and will be a hot proposition for a price of ₹35,999.

The Red Magic 3 comes with typically the same outer body as the earlier generation devices but with significant improvements under the hood. First off, it is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and up to 12GB of RAM. Along with these, the smartphone gets up to 256GB UFS 2.1 storage.

To enhance performance while gaming, the Red Magic 3 comes with touch-sensitive triggers on the top which – alongside the rear-facing fingerprint scanner – can be mapped to several on-screen actions for an engaging gaming experience. On top of that, the smartphone is equipped with a physical fan on the inside which keeps the phone from heating up too much while gaming. Nubia claims that the fan has an “ultra-low” power consumption. The smartphone has a dedicated physical button to launch the Game Space 2.0 software for blocking out features which hinder your gaming experience.

Another tempting trait of the Nubia Red Magic 3 is its 6.65-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display. This display sports a 90Hz refresh rate and gets features like a DC Dimming and HDR. Additionally, the smartphone gets stereo speakers for an immersive experience. Adding to this gaming experience is the RGB strip on the back.

To ensure uninterrupted gaming sessions, the Red Magic 3 comes with a 5,000mAh battery along with 27W USB-PD as well as Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 support. While all the gaming strength puts photography to the backseat, the smartphone features a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor on the back and a 16MP shooter on the front.

In India, the 8GB/128GB variant of the Nubia Red Magic 3 comes at a price of ₹35,999 while the 12GB/256GB variant comes for ₹46,999. The 8GB variant comes in red and black color options while the 12GB variant has a camo finish. These are the only two variants available in India. The smartphone will be availble for sale via Flipkart starting noon of June 27th.

At this price, its primary competitor is the Black Shark 2 which was also launched in India recently. At the same time, the smartphone competes against the OnePlus 7 as well as the OPPO Reno series.
