NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Gets Android 5.0.1, OTA Available
The NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet is the latest Android-powered device released by famed GPU manufacturer NVIDIA. This device has been one of the very first devices to receive an update to Android 5.0, beating almost all flagships by various other OEMs. NVIDIA has just announced via their blog that the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet received a 2.1 update to Android 5.0.1, which brings a few interesting things.
According to NVIDIA, the SHIELD Tablet’s performance should increase. NVIDA has been working on improving the general UI and app responsiveness. Switching between the apps should now take less time. The camera app, Camera Awesome, gets some new creative effects for stills and videos. The application should now take the full advantage of Tegra K1 GPU to deliver live-preview and full resolution recording with effects. The SHIELD Tablet is now compatible with OpenGL 4.5, which was announced earlier this year.
The newest update brings the SHIELD Power Control Menu back, as per community request. This is definitely a nice move from NVIDIA , which obviously listened to its users and delivered a firmware that matched expectations.
Those of you who don’t want to wait for an official OTA to land on the tablet can head over to the OTA thread posted by XDA Forum Member Gamingmayr. According to users, a full version can be installed via custom recovery. The good news is that SuperSU survives the update without issues. If you haven’t updated your NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet already, head over to the OTA thread and give this update a try.
