undefinedOnePlus just released the OxygenOS 9.0 stable updated based on Android Pie for the OnePlus 6, and we're already seeing developers making mods for it. Just a few days ago, we saw the stock OnePlus Launcher get modded to add Google Feed support. Now, a new mod adds the weather to the lockscreen of the phone like on the Google Pixel. The mod also adds the AOSP Ambient Display, AOSP clear all notifications button, and reduces the lock screen wallpaper scrim.

The mod, made by XDA Senior member paphonb, requires you to be on the latest OxygenOS 9.0 stable update and not any of the Open Beta versions. This is because the mod is replacing the SystemUI APK with a modified version, so there will be some incompatibilities if you try installing this Magisk Module on any other OnePlus device or any other software builds on the OnePlus 6. To install the mod, just download the Magisk Module and add it to Magisk. I installed it on Magisk v17.2 beta, but it should work on most new versions of Magisk.

If the lockscreen weather doesn't show up at first, add the At a Glance widget from the Google App to your home screen and see if that forces the weather to show. Once it does, you can remove the widget if you want. You also need to make sure that you have location services enabled for your phone. The AOSP Ambient Display only requires you to disable the OxygenOS Ambient Display before enabling the AOSP one. Although this mod adds the Always On Ambient Display function, we don't recommend you use it because it's really buggy at the moment. If you want to have an Always On Display, we recommend this other module which enables the OxygenOS version of the feature.

This module is great for those who want some of useful Google Pixel features but don't want to flash a custom ROM like Pixel Experience or buy a Google Pixel. Unfortunately, this mod will break with any future OxygenOS updates since the SystemUI APK will need to be modified each time. We're not sure how long paphonb will maintain this project as he did it for fun, but it's possible that other developers may pick it up afterward. Alternatively, we may see some of these features incorporated into the official OxygenOS—or so we hope.
