OnePlus 6 prototypes with gradient color finishes get shown off
The OnePlus 6T is the OnePlus device on everyone’s mind these days (we’ll finally see it next week), but let’s take a step back to the OnePlus 6. YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss got a chance to tour the OnePlus headquarters in China. One of the most interesting things he saw was some OnePlus 6 prototypes in some radical colors.
The OnePlus 6 was launched with 4 colors, and 2 are just black with different sheens. The other 2 are red and white, which they had in limited quantities. Apparently, though, they tested a bunch of different colors. In one image we can see 18 different color variations. A few of those have a very cool gradient effect. Some even change colors when you move them in the light.
While these colors look really cool, it’s no surprise that OnePlus ultimately went with something more simple for the OnePlus 6. Slim profit margins make it difficult to put resources into things that not many consumers will want. For example, some people would love a green phone, but it’s not nearly as universal as white, black, or even red. When major manufacturers like Samsung still only put out a handful of colors, it’s hard to expect any more from smaller companies like OnePlus.
