OnePlus smartphones are really popular among custom ROM enthusiasts because of their pricing, availability, and unlocking support. The XDA forums for OnePlus devices are thriving with a plethora of custom ROMs, kernels, and other modifications, but one custom ROM that has been missing for the latest OnePlus smartphones is LineageOS. Today, the custom ROM team has officially started building LineageOS 16 (based on Android 9 Pie) for the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 7 Pro.

The OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 7 Pro join the OnePlus 2, OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, and OnePlus 6 in the LineageOS 16 build roster. That leaves only the OnePlus X and OnePlus 7 as the two OnePlus devices that have yet to be supported by the latest version of LineageOS. As for why LineageOS 16 is only now supporting the 6T and 7 Pro, we can attribute that to the strict requirements of LineageOS' Device Support Requirements Charter and the fact that it's taken a while for developers to stabilize their in-display fingerprint scanner implementations.

OnePlus has already made OxygenOS based on Android Pie available for both the 6T and the 7 Pro, and they have plans to update both devices to Android Q. However, there's still value in switching over to a custom ROM, especially if you want to customize your device's software to your heart's content.

Both ROMs are now available from the LineageOS website. LineageOS 16 is built every day. Both the OnePlus 6T and the OnePlus 7 Pro have dual A/B partitions, so be sure you follow the installation instructions found on the download page. Thanks to developer Luk1337 for maintaining the custom ROM for the 6T and 7 Pro, and also thanks to developers PeterCxy and Tortel for maintaining the custom ROM for the 7 Pro. Lastly, thanks to OnePlus for seeding units to many developers from the community.
