The OnePlus 7 is one of those phones that has an amazing price to performance ratio. It comes packed with all the flagship specs, like Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM, 128GB of UFS 3.0 storage, and latest stable version of Android. Considering all that, it's starting price of £499 is more than acceptable. Today, the device received its first software update since the release, which adds a lot of new things.

The first and probably the most important one is the security update. OxygenOS 9.5.3.GM57AA brings April security patches to the device. While it's still not as new as I would like, slow progress is appreciated still. The next big thing OnePlus added is the DC Dimming, as promised. This feature basically eliminates the side effects of PWM, specifically bright pulses at low light. The feature replaces the PWM method with DC voltage control of the LED. If you want to try it out, navigate to Settings > Utilities > OnePlus Laboratory > DC Dimming and enable it. Being in the OnePlus Laboratory category means that it's still an experimental feature. We will most likely see a better version of it in the future updates.

Fnatic Mode is another addition to the OnePlus 7. It includes a bunch of optimizations like disabling notifications and running services to enhance the gaming experience. You can go to Settings > Utilities > Gaming Mode > Fnatic Mode to enable it. OnePlus also mentions in the changelog that the update improves quality of the photos taken with the device. The update is sent to the stable channel, so all OnePlus 7 users should receive it. You can navigate to Settings > System > System Update to check for the updates manually. The update is only 223MB in size, so the download process should be fast but keep the size in mind if you're on metered connections and have a limited data plan.
