After multiple rounds of teasing, OnePlus officially announced the OnePlus 7T today. At a starting price of $599 in the U.S., the 7T offers a large 6.55-inch 90Hz "Fluid AMOLED" display that's HDR10+ certified, triple rear cameras including a 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor, a 12MP 2X optical zoom sensor, and a 16MP 117° ultra wide-angle sensor, UFS 3.0 storage, 8GB of RAM, Warp Charge 30T charging, and Android 10. In the U.S., the 7T will replace the OnePlus 6T and compete with the Pixel 4 from Google, so it seems to tick all the right boxes in terms of pricing and features. However, two of the phone's new camera features won't immediately be available at launch; instead, they'll arrive in a post-launch update.
OnePlus informed us that the OnePlus 7T will support recording 720p slow-motion videos at 960fps. The OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 7, and OnePlus 7 Pro all support slow motion video capture at 720p@480fps, so the new 960fps recording will be twice as slow. We haven't confirmed this yet, but it's likely that this feature will use motion interpolation since the camera sensors on the 7T can't store 960 frames every second. OnePlus would be far from the only one doing this—in fact, they're pretty late to hop on this bandwagon—but the fact that it's likely not native 960fps slow-motion won't matter to most people.
Another camera feature that we were told will arrive in a post-launch update for the OnePlus 7T is the ability to record 4K@30fps videos from the ultra wide-angle camera. The OnePlus 7 Pro can also record wide-angle videos, though this only recently arrived with the phone's Android 10 update. Changing to the wide-angle lens is as easy as tapping on the symbol with three trees in the camera viewfinder or sliding left on the zoom slider.
The OnePlus 7T will go on sale in the U.S. through T-Mobile stores and OnePlus.com on October 18th. The phone will be available for $599 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage model in Glacier Blue or Frosted Silver (shown above) and launches with OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10 out of the box. Once the update bringing these two camera features arrives, we'll let you all know.
