OnePlus 8T on T-Mobile finally gets Always On Display with OxygenOS 11.0.4.6 update

When OxygenOS 11 was released, one of the headlining features was Always On Display. Unfortunately, for OnePlus 8T owners on T-Mobile, that feature was conspicuously missing, but it has finally been added in a new update.

T-Mobile this week released OxygenOS 11.0.4.06 for the OnePlus 8T, which finally includes the Always On Display feature. It’s unclear why the feature wasn’t there to begin with or why it took so long to introduce. But it’s finally here, just in time for the holidays. The same update also includes the October 2020 security patch.

The Always On Display feature has been one of the most requested features from OnePlus users. And after years of asking, the company finally delivered after weighing how it would affect battery life. In our hands-on from earlier this year, we talked about OnePlus’s implementation of Always On Display and how it compares to other options.

Since introducing Always On Display in OxygenOS 11, OnePlus has iterated on the feature by introducing a Canvas AOD option. It essentially draws a wireframe picture based on a Lock Screen photo on your phone. It suits the feature well and allows users to personalize their experience in a fun and unique way.

OnePlus has since launched a second campaign to crowd-source more ideas, which ended at the beginning of November. On its IDEAS website, some of the most popular new suggestions include a Dark Mode that is black instead of grey, lock screen customization, and other features.

Some of these suggestions have already been given the seal of approval by OnePlus, so fans can likely expect them in the coming months barring any major issues.

T-Mobile subscribers who own a OnePlus 8T can check their system updater to download the latest OxygenOS 11.0.4.06 now. We don’t have any download links to share since T-Mobile—not OnePlus—is pushing this update.
