[Update: OnePlus 6/6T] OnePlus rolls out August 2019 security patches for the OnePlus 3/3T/5/5T

[Update: OnePlus 6/6T] OnePlus rolls out August 2019 security patches for the OnePlus 3/3T/5/5T

Update (8/8/19 @ 11:15 AM ET): OxygenOS Open Beta 24 and Open Beta 16 are rolling out for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T.

At the tail end of last month, OnePlus surprised many of us within the community with the announcement of OxygenOS 9.5.11 for the OnePlus 7 Pro. We’re used to seeing some companies, like Essential, rolling out Android’s monthly security updates at the start of the month, but OnePlus has actually been a month behind when it came to security patches for the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro (until now). With that update still rolling out to people, the company has announced a similar OTA update for the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, and OnePlus 5T that also brings them up to date when it comes to security patches.

First up we have the smaller of the two OTA updates for the aging (but still going strong) OnePlus 3 series. This update for these two devices will bring OxygenOS up to version 9.0.5 and there doesn’t seem to be much there other than the August 2019 security patches. That isn’t to say that is all that is included, as the changelog does list the always-vague “general bug fixes and improvements” line as well. But the company doesn’t go into any detail about what those changes include.

System

  • Updated Android security patch to 2019.8
  • General bug fixes and improvements

Then we have the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, which are also receiving a new OTA update that includes the August 2019 security patches as well. There is more work put into the update for these two devices though as we’re told it also includes some optimizations that make the “screenshot taking process smoother and faster.” This update, which brings OxygenOS up to version 9.0.8 for the OnePlus 5/5T series, also includes some changes to Zen Mode as well including “optimized visual effects” and an additional setting that you can use to “select the duration of time.”

System

  • Optimized and made the screenshot taking process smoother and faster
  • General bug fixes and stability improvements
  • Updated Android security patch to 2019.08

Zen Mode

  • Optimized visual effects
  • Added the additional setting to select the duration of time
