We're getting closer to the launch date of Android Q, but there's still one more public beta from Google before that happens. Other smartphone brands like OnePlus also have their own Android Q beta programs, and earlier today the company started rolling out its fourth beta. We grabbed the build for the OnePlus 7 Pro and discovered that the OnePlus Camera app received an update. Now at version 3.8.13, the camera app has added one new feature we spotted previously as well as a new camera mode.

OnePlus Camera 3.8.13 Changes

Focus Tracking

Earlier this week, we discovered that version 3.8.1 of the camera app, which rolled out with OnePlus' Android Q DP3, had a hidden "Focus Tracking" setting. We managed to activate the feature after a bit of tweaking. According to the feature's description, "Focus tracking keeps moving people, cats and dogs always in focus." The feature works in both the photo and video modes. Here's a brief demonstration of the new feature:

With version 3.8.13 of the APK, Focus Tracking is now available in Settings. We confirmed it's available on two separate OnePlus 7 Pro devices running the latest Android Q DP4 release, but I was personally unable to get the feature working on my device running Android Pie-based OxygenOS 9.5.10.

Macro mode

On the top bar, a button has been added for a macro mode that helps you take close shots. The hint string tells the user to "place the subject 2.5cm-8cm away." Another string tells the user that flash is disabled in macro mode.

This feature seems to be exclusive to the OnePlus 7 Pro. Since the OnePlus 7 Pro doesn't have a dedicated macro lens like the Honor 20 Pro, it's likely that OnePlus is going the Huawei route by using auto-focus on the wide-angle lens for macro shots. I was able to get this feature to show up on my own 7 Pro running Android Pie by simply side-loading the new camera APK.

We're still digging into the Android Q DP4 release and will publish articles on our other findings.
