OnePlus 6T

While OnePlus has never gone for a display that exceeds a 1080p resolution, they’ve always set the bar for other displays in this price range. At 6.41″, the OnePlus 6T has a pixel density of 402 ppi. The AMOLED display has bright vivid colors which display photos and videos with the most accuracy out of these three phones. At full brightness, this display puts out an impressive 453 nits.

At the top of the display you’ll find a water drop notch for the selfie camera, which takes up a minimal amount of screen space. The glass is made up of the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6, giving the OnePlus 6T a decent amount of durability.

Xiaomi Mi 9

The Xiaomi Mi 9 also has an AMOLED display with the same 1080×2340 resolution as the OnePlus 6T. The slightly smaller 6.38″ display size gives it a pixel density of 403 ppi. The colors produced by this display are slightly less saturated than the OnePlus 6T, but the whites and blacks of the AMOLED display still put it ahead on the Honor View20. At full brightness this phone will put out an insane 620 nits. This makes is the best display out of the three for outdoor use.

The top has a water drop notch which is slightly smaller than the OnePlus 6T. One again, the glass is made up of Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

Honor View20

The Honor View20 skips out on an AMOLED display, as Honor phones tend to do. The screen resolution comes to 1080x2310p as the display isn’t quite as tall as the other phones. The size of the display is 6.4″ and has a pixel density of 398 ppi. The colors on the Honor View20 are slightly more accurate than the Xiaomi Mi 9 while falling just short of the OnePlus 6T. At full brightness, the display measures 479 making it slightly brighter than the OnePlus 6T.

The Honor View20 has a hole-punch camera “notch” in the top left corner of the display. This is the smallest out of the three notches from these phones. There’s no gorilla glass to be found on this device.

Winner: Xiaomi Mi 9

While comparing these displays side-by-side in an indoor environment, you’ll find the differences are minimal. As soon as you step outside, the Xiaomi Mi 9 becomes the most usable phone with its super bright display. Because of this, the Xiaomi Mi 9 wins the best display.

OnePlus 6T (OxygenOS)

The OnePlus 6T has a very stock version of Android in the form of OxygenOS. The main focus of this software as always been the performance. While many phones are packed with great specs just to be ruined by a bloated software experience, the OnePlus 6T does the opposite. OnePlus is very consistent with updates and make sure that their phones are always one of the first to get the latest version of Android.

These are some of the best features of OxygenOS:

  • Stock Android UI
  • Gaming Mode
  • Quick Launch
  • Alert Slider

Xiaomi Mi 9 (MIUI)

MIUI is a very good looking UI with a great icon pack and super fast performance. Beyond a custom gallery, music app, browser, and a few other essential apps, MIUI is a totally bloatware-free software. This is really nice to see on phones this cheap, as companies usually throw a bunch of crapware on there. MIUI is less of a stock Android experience as it features all kinds of little animations and layout changes, but the software performs so well that it’s not something you’ll find to be an issue.

These are some of the best features of MIUI:

  • Recent Apps UI Design
  • Theme Engine
  • Improved Settings Menu
  • Second Space

Honor View20 (Magic UI)

Magic UI is a version of EMUI which shows up on most Honor and Huawei phones. While Magic UI has more useful features than the Xiaomi Mi 9 and OnePlus 6T, it suffers from a slower UX and comes with way too much bloatware. The pre installed games can be uninstalled easily enough, but apps like phone manager, HiCare, and the health app cannot be removed. Magic UI is a bloated and slow software and falls short of the other options in the article.

These are some of the best features of Magic UI:

  • Screen Recorder
  • Video Editor
  • PrivateSpace
  • Camera App

When it comes to software, the more stock Android the better. There are so many third party apps you can use to customize different parts of your phone that there’s no need for a bloated and heavily customized OEM UI.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 and OnePlus 6T both have Snapdragon chipsets. The OnePlus 6T has the earlier SD845 while the Xiaomi Mi 9 has the newer SD855. So the Xiaomi Mi 9 ends up having better overall performance than the OnePlus 6T. The Honor View20 has the latest Kirin 980 chipset which comes really close to performing as well as the SD855. However, the Xiaomi Mi 9 has superior performance in this category as is has the latest chipset on the market.

Winner: Xiaomi Mi 9

The OnePlus 6T can take photos at a max of 16MP which makes it really hard to compete with the 48MP sensors in the Honor View20 and the Xiaomi Mi 9. Since the Mi 9 and View20 have the same 48MP Sony sensor, you’ll get really similar looking photos out of these two phones. However, the triple lens setup on the Xiaomi Mi 9 gives its photos a slightly higher quality than the Honor View20.

Speaker Quality

To test the speaker quality, I step up each phone with the bottom firing speaker about 6 inches away from my audio recorder. I played a snippet of a movie trailer from YouTube, and had the media volume set to max. Here are the results.

Headphone Quality

Out of the three phones, the Honor View20 is the only one with a headphone jack, so we will throw the winner to the Honor View 20. You can always use a USB Type-C pair of headphones for the OnePlus 6T and the Xiaomi Mi 9, but nothing beats the convenience of a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Winner: Honor View20

The OnePlus 6T has its signature dash charge technology and has some of the fastest charging speeds in the industry. The Xiaomi Mi 9 supports fast charge but has a smaller batter than the other two phones. The Honor View20 has a large 4,000mAh battery with a super fast charge time. Having the largest battery and the best charging speeds, the winner in this category goes to the Honor View20.

All three of these phones have impressive build quality. The Xiaomi Mi 9 has a very nice looking back plate but it has a light plastic feel when you hold it. The OnePlus 6T has a solid build that feels more durable than the other phones, but the design is a bit boring compared to the others. The Honor View20 has a nice balance with a high quality build that feels really nice to hold, and a super unique design that Honor clearly put a lot of effort into. the Honor View20 easily has the best design out of the three phones.
