Smartphones made by OPPO run ColorOS, an Android skin that focuses on vibrant colors (thus, the name) and detailed icons. Over the years, OPPO has made progress and established a separate identity for ColorOS away from the initial perception about it being inspired by iOS. In March this year, OPPO announced ColorOS 6 for its smartphones and the latest version of the Android overlay comes with more emphasis on minimalism, flat icons, and gradients along with performance improvements. Since then, the ColorOS 6 update has made its way to premium devices such as the OPPO Reno series and should soon be rolling out to other devices in India.

OPPO recently announced the beginning of the beta testing phase of the ColorOS 6 update in India. ColorOS 6 is based on Android 9 Pie and the trials have already begun for certain users. As per the schedule highlighted by OPPO, the beta update has already been rolled out to the OPPO F9/F9 Pro while the OPPO F7 and the Find X will be getting the update this month. Furthermore, OPPO K1, OPPO R15/R15 Pro, OPPO R17 Pro, and the OPPO F7 Youth will be getting the update in September whereas the OPPO R17 and OPPO RX17 Pro/RX17 Neo are on the waitlist for an update due in October.

Among the set of features that the ColorOS 6 update brings, there are new navigation gestures, flat and minimal icons, and new wallpapers. The update also focuses on increasing blank spaces for a minimal view.

In addition, there's GameBoost 2.0 for a smoother and more immersive gaming experience. This includes TouchBoost for better touch response as well as accuracy and FrameBoost for sustained gaming at high frame rates. Furthermore, ColorOS 6 also includes "AI cold storage" which freezes the apps after you exit them in order to save the battery from being passively consumed.
