The Oppo Reno series has been well received in tech circles, with the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom particularly appreciated for its unique shark-fin popup camera and the 10x lossless hybrid zoom capabilities. The Oppo Reno has also won praise from customers in key markets like India thanks to its fairly competitive pricing in the region. Now, in just about four months since its launch, the Chinese company is looking to launch the next iteration in the Reno series, the Oppo Reno 2.

According to teasers and information obtained by 91Mobiles and @Xiaomishka, Oppo is looking to launch the Oppo Reno2 series, eyeing a launch in India on August 28, 2019, even before the phone is launched in its home market. The teasers mention the word "series", so we expect to see multiple devices being launched within the lineup, similar to what Oppo did with the original Reno.

@Xiaomishka's event invite teaser indicates that the Reno2 will come with a quad-camera setup, while other early rumors indicate that this setup will comprise of a 48MP main camera, a 13MP telephoto camera, an 8MP wide-angle camera, and a 2MP depth-of-field. These camera specifications might be restricted to the standard variant within the Reno 2 series.

The teaser obtained by 91Mobiles suggests that the higher specced variant of the Oppo Reno 2 will come with a 20x zoom camera, though this does not necessarily confirm optical zoom capabilities up to 20x. Devices in the series are expected to retain their signature shark-fin popup selfie cameras, which further indicates that they will come with a full-screen display with no notches. The Oppo Reno 2 is rumored to come with a 6.43-inch AMOLED display, though the report from 91Mobiles states that the fourth camera will be a 2MP monochrome shooter, which contradicts the previous source.

We expect to receive more information about the devices in the upcoming days, especially with regards to their specifications. So for now, please treat these rumored specifications as rumors only. What is clear though is that the Oppo Reno 2 series is coming very soon to India.

Update: Oppo India has officially confirmed the launch of the Oppo Reno 2 series with a tweet.

Update 1: Oppo Reno 2 passes through TENAA

The Oppo Reno 2 has passed through TENAA, confirming the design of the phone and several of its key specifications.

The Oppo Reno 2 will come in at 160 mm × 74.3 mm × 9.5 mm and weigh 189g. The Reno 2 has a 6.5" 2400 x 1080 AMOLED display with no notches, as the 16MP selfie camera will be housed with the shark fin popup. The rear camera setup will comprise of a 48MP main sensor, a 13MP telephoto camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. In the device images, we see a small indentation beneath the camera -- we are unsure whether this is a functional part of the phone or merely cosmetic.

Powering the Oppo Reno 2 will be an octa-core CPU with a max clock speed of 2.2GHz, paired with 8GB of RAM and options of 128GB and 256GB of internal storage, with an option to expand it by a further 256GB. The phone will also have a 3,915 mAh battery. The TENAA listing also mentions that the phone will have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone will run on Android 9 Pie.
