It's important to have a strong Wi-Fi password to keep others from getting in and using your home network. But having a long and complicated Wi-Fi password also makes it tough to share it with others. We've all been there, right? Just trying to figure out what the password is when someone asks for it? Thankfully, Android phones make it very easy to share Wi-Fi passwords. There are a couple of ways to share Wi-Fi passwords on Android, none of which involve reading out a long jumble of letters and numbers. If you're wondering how to do that, you've come to the right place.

There are two ways to share Wi-Fi passwords with your Android device. You can either share it by creating a QR code or using the nearby sharing feature. Let's start with the QR code method first:

We used a Google Pixel 7 for this tutorial, but they should more or less be identical on most Android phones.

How to share a Wi-Fi password by creating a QR code

  1. You first need to ensure that you're connected to the Wi-Fi network that you want to share. You can do this by navigating to the Internet settings, either by long-pressing the Internet option within your Quick Settings or by going to Settings > Network and Internet > Internet.
  2. Select the Wi-Fi network you want to share to open a new page with the network details.
  3. Look for an option to Share with a QR code icon above it. Select that option to expand the QR code on your display.
  4. You may be asked to either scan your fingerprint or enter the device security code before revealing the QR code.
  5. You can have this QR scanned by the device you want to connect to the network. Simply open the camera app on that particular device to scan the code, and it should automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network.
  6. Alternatively, you can also go to the Wi-Fi section on the settings page and select the QR code icon next to the Add Network option to scan the code.

Using Nearby Sharing to share Wi-Fi

Alternatively, you can use Android's Nearby Sharing feature to share the Wi-Fi password with others. This feature also lets you share the information with nearby devices without having to scan a QR code. Here's how to use this feature:

  1. Follow the first three steps mentioned in the previous section to get to the page with the QR code.
  2. Instead of having the other device scan the QR code, you can simply select the Nearby option right below the Wi-Fi password. Doing this will make your phone search for devices nearby to share.
  3. Enable the Nearby Share feature if you're not using it already.
  4. Once you do that, you will receive a notification informing that your phone is searching for nearby devices.
  5. Select the notification to initiate a connection between both devices.
  6. Tap the Accept option on the smartphone you're sharing the network from.
  7. Doing so will automatically connect the new device to the Wi-Fi network.

And that's it! Those are the two simple ways to share the Wi-Fi password with your Android device. Both methods will work across all Android phones, whether you're using a flagship smartphone or one of the budget phones. You can also share your Wi-Fi password with as many devices as you want, but make sure to keep tabs on the number of devices that are connected to your network. Having too many devices connected to your network at any given time may lead to unnecessary issues, including bandwidth hogging, so share the Wi-Fi password with only those you trust.
