The Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC was announced nearly a year ago. The 700 series is a slight step up from the mid-range 600 series, but not quite on the 800 series level. We've seen it in a lot of devices from Oppo, Nokia, and other devices in the segment. Today, Qualcomm has announced the next chipset in the series: the Snapdragon 712. As you can probably tell from the model number bump, this is a small upgrade.

The Snapdragon 712 is a 10nm-based chip with 64-bit architecture and 8X Kyro 360 CPU cores. Just like the Snapdragon 710, the 712 has the Adreno 616 GPU and Snapdragon X15 modem. Clock speed is one area where the Snapdragon 712 is a slight upgrade. It has a higher clock speed of 2.3GHz (compared to 2.2GHz). Charging speed is also slightly improved with Quick Charge 4.0+.

Qualcomm has also added a couple of new audio technologies to the Snapdragon 712. TrueWireless Stereo Plus is for wireless earbuds. broadcast Audio helps users stream audio to multiple Bluetooth devices at the same time. As you would expect in 2019, Qualcomm also says the 712 offers smarter and faster integration with AI. The 712 is not a major upgrade over the 710, so it will be interesting to see which devices launch with the latest chipset. It's possible we will hear more news at MWC later this month.
