Realme started off as an Oppo sub-brand, but has since matured enough in the Indian market to find its own space. While there's still ample reliance on Oppo, as is evident from the shared ColorOS custom UX skin, Realme devices have resonated well with users who are looking for a brand with an active community in the early segments of the market, but who do not want to opt for Xiaomi. More choice is always good, and Realme brings real value in this case. As the company had previously promised, Android Pie is now available for the Realme 2 and the Realme C1 in the form of a beta build of ColorOS 6.

The Realme 2 and the Realme C1 were scheduled to receive their Android Pie and ColorOS 6 update in this month, alongside other Realme devices like the Realme 1 and Realme 2 Pro. Of these, the Realme 2 Pro has already received its stable build of ColorOS 6 based on Pie, bringing along features like Chroma Boost, support for Camera HAL3, and more. Meanwhile, the Realme 1 and the Realme U1 had also received their beta builds for the new version update. Now it's finally the opportunity for Realme 2 and C1 users to try out beta builds for their device. The announcement post states that the stable update will be rolled out in about three weeks -- this is a little delayed from their timeline, but users would appreciate a more thoroughly tested build.

Users interested in trying out these beta builds will need to enroll themselves in the Beta program and share their details with the company accordingly. Beta builds come with the implied warning of potential instability and bugs, so it is not recommended that you install this on your daily driver. The purpose of field testing betas is to find out bugs and fix them before a wider public rollout, so participants will be expected to share their feedback along with steps to reproduce the bugs. Of course, a data backup is highly recommended.
