Update (2/25/20 @ 9:15 AM ET): The Redmi K30 Pro will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chip.

Last year’s Redmi K20 Pro was inarguably one of the best ‘flagship killers’ from the company. The device offered top-of-the-line hardware at a very affordable price point, making it one of the most popular handsets in emerging markets like India. Back in December last year, Xiaomi’s spin-off brand Redmi launched a follow up to the device — the Redmi K30 — in China, however, the device featured mid-range specifications which meant that it wasn’t a true successor to the flagship killer from last year. Earlier this month we learned that the company was planning to launch a more appropriate successor to the Redmi K20 Pro (review), featuring Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 chip. Now, the company has officially released the first teaser image for the upcoming Redmi K30 Pro.

Redmi K30 Pro teaser

In a recent post on Chinese social media platform Weibo, Redmi’s Lu Weibing has shared an announcement poster for the Redmi K30 Pro, giving us our first look at the upcoming device. Unlike the Redmi K30, the K30 Pro doesn’t feature a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera(s) which leads us to believe that the device will, most likely, feature a pop-up selfie camera, much like the one on last year’s Redmi K20 Pro. While it is quite possible that Redmi may have included an under-display camera on the device if we take into account the company’s statement from earlier this year, that move seems unlikely.

The poster further reveals that the upcoming Redmi K30 Pro will feature 5G support, much like the Redmi K30 5G, but the company hasn’t revealed if there will be a 4G model for the smartphone as well. Other than that, Weibing talks about the device being a “true flagship” and not the “beggar version”, but reveals no further details about the Redmi K30 Pro’s specifications. Redmi is planning to launch the device next month and we expect the company to share more information about the Redmi K30 Pro in the days leading up to its launch.
