The Redmi Note 7 will get the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3’s Super Night Scene camera feature

The Redmi Note 7 was launched a week ago in China, bringing the waterdrop display notch, a new design, a USB Type-C port, and more to the Redmi sub brand from Xiaomi. However, the main USP of the device is the 48MP primary rear camera, consisting of an ISOCELL Samsung GM1 sensor. It has an aperture of f/1.8 and a relatively huge 1/2″ sensor size (for smartphone cameras). The primary camera is coupled with a 5MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.

In daylight, the Redmi Note 7 uses super resolution techniques to output 48MP photos with 0.8μm pixels. In low light, the phone uses 4-in-1 pixel binning to simulate 1.6μm pixels and take photos with an effective resolution of 12MP.

Now, Redmi, through Xiaomi’s MIUI Weibo page, has confirmed that this newly launched device will be getting the Super Night Scene feature. This feature was revealed with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, and it allows for brighter and more saturated photographs in low light scenarios. Redmi had mentioned in the Redmi Note 7 launch itself that the feature would be making its way to the device, and now, they have confirmed that the feature will indeed make its way in a future update as it is currently not available out-of-the-box.

Once the Super Night Scene feature makes its way over to the Redmi Note 7 (and assuming it works closer to what is being advertised), the device would be an excellent choice for its camera capabilities in the early mid-range. Though, it is worth keeping in mind that the hardware improvements seen on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro for its front cameras, do not make their way over to the non-pro version of its successor. The Redmi Note 7 comes with a single front camera of 13MP resolution, and thanks to the waterdrop notch, there is no depth sensor on the front for portrait mode. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen what improvements the Redmi Note 7 Pro would bring over the Redmi Note 7.
