Xiaomi is gearing up for a big launch in China on August 29, 2019. So far, the company intends to launch a 70-inch Redmi 4K smart TV, a Redmibook 14 with a 10th-gen Intel Core i7 processor, the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 8 Pro, and possibly MIUI 11 as well. Redmi had earlier confirmed the design of the Note 8 Pro, and the fact that one of the phones will come with a MediaTek G90T SoC. Today, Redmi has officially confirmed the design of the Note 8 (standard, non-Pro variant) and also revealed that the phone will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC.

Redmi's teaser for the Note 8 confirms what we saw earlier when the Redmi Note 8 passed through FCC. It also confirms the fact that Redmi has chosen different designs for the Note 8 (camera module on the left) and the Note 8 Pro (camera module on the center). The attached Weibo post further mentions that this phone will come with a 48MP main sensor, a wide-angle lens camera, a macro lens camera, and a fourth sensor for depth-of-field. It isn't immediately clear which sensor this 48MP sensor is, but we should find out soon enough.

Redmi has also revealed that this phone will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, which uses Samsung's 11nm LPP process, and can be seen on other new Xiaomi devices like the Mi A3. This SoC is an upgrade over the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 that we saw on the Redmi Note 7, bringing along upgrades like lower battery consumption, Vulkan 1.1 API support, and a third-gen AI engine with the Hexagon 686 DSP. The choice of a Qualcomm SOC also works at providing a choice to those users who disliked the choice of the MediaTek G90T on the Pro variant. It remains to be seen what other differences exist between the two phones, and their pricing, all of which will play a very important role in choosing one over the other.
