For long, Samsung has had to face criticism for its sluggish approach in rolling out software updates for older devices. That has changed to a fair bit with the One UI update which is based on Android Pie. The company is not only actively pushing Android Pie updates to a wide catalog of its smartphones but also bringing features from its flagship devices to older premium smartphones.

Samsung recently isolated the "Bright Night" on the Galaxy S10 feature into a separate Night mode. Samsung's camera Night mode, just like Google's Night Sight, works on the principle of increasing the duration of exposure to light. Earlier, the camera software analyzed the ambient conditions and toggled the Night mode automatically but an update in April added a manual switch for the Night mode on the Galaxy S10. Now, the feature is making way to last year's flagship – the Samsung Galaxy S9 – along with the latest security update and improvements to the Live Focus mode.

Just like on the Galaxy S10, the standalone Night mode (not to be confused with the system-wide dark mode on Samsung devices also called "Night Mode") feature on the Galaxy S9 can be accessed by swiping across the camera UI through the different modes. Both – the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S9 – share the same camera hardware so the performance of the Night mode is expected to be similar.

Besides the dedicated Night mode, Galaxy S9 devices are also getting the ability to change the intensity of the background blur while using the Live Focus mode on the front camera. The feature can also be expected to arrive on other premium devices including the Galaxy Note 9 soon.

The update also brings Google security update from June 2019, ensuring that your Galaxy S9 devices are secure against the recently discovered security threats. The OTA is rolling out to users in the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam for now and should be available for users in other regions soon.
