Samsung launches the budget 2019 Galaxy Tab A with S Pen support

Tablets sales have been consistently declining over the past few years and the market is expected to get even more challenging due to foldable smartphones. For Android tablets, the situation is much worse as compared to iPads but that is not stopping Samsung from announcing newer tablets. After launching the entertainment-focussed Galaxy Tab S5e last month, Samsung has launched an updated version of its Galaxy Tab A with 4G LTE and support for S Pen.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab A uses an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1200. From its official listing, the Galaxy Tab A 8″ appears to be aimed at students and comes with middling processing capabilities. The tablet is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7904 octa-core SoC, which also powers the mid-range smartphone Samsung Galaxy M20. The chipset is coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card.

The Galaxy Tab A 8″ features an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera. Based on the information sourced from the firmware packages (courtesy of XDA Recognized developer deadman96385), the camera also supports AR emoji and stickers, live bokeh, live blur, and live beauty modes. The rear camera also supports video recording at Full HD. Meanwhile, there is no fingerprint scanner on this tablet, nor is there any mention of unlocking through facial recognition.

Despite its mediocre spec sheet, the Galaxy Tab A can be seen running One UI based on Android 9 Pie. It uses a 4,200mAh battery and Samsung claims it can be used for browing the internet using 4G or Wi-Fi for up to 11 hours. The tablet is available in grey and black colors and will come with the same S Pen as the Galaxy Note 8.

While its price is not known yet, the Galaxy Tab A will be sold in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam as well in the UK (via Carphone Warehouse).
