Tablets are viewed as the red-headed stepchild of the Android ecosystem. Many OEMs have abandoned the form factor completely and it seems even Google is trying to transition to Chrome OS for tablets. Samsung is one OEM that keeps pumping out these devices, but they tend to be a bit repetitive. However, the (previously rumored) Galaxy Tab S5e aims to shake things up.

While a lot of Samsung's tablets have a focus on productivity, the Galaxy Tab S5e is being touted as an entertainment device. It has the thinnest and lightest unibody metal design of any Galaxy tablet, which makes it perfect for lounging around with. The display is 10.5-inches with thin bezels on all four sides, so it's not as big as other 10-inch tablets on the market.

Speaking of the display, the Galaxy Tab S5e has a Super AMOLED display. We've seen Samsung skimp on the display on previous affordable tablets, so we're glad to see AMOLED here. The resolution is 2560x1600 and it has a 16:10 aspect ratio. The tablet also comes equipped with AKG-tuned quad surround sound speakers, which further emphasizes the media consumption focus.

Priced at $399, the Galaxy Tab S5e is one of Samsung's cheaper tablets. The one area where they made some sacrifices is performance. It's powered by the Snapdragon 670 SoC and 4GB RAM/64GB storage. There will be a 6GB RAM/128GB storage model available at a later date. The beefy 7,040 mAh battery should be more than enough for a Netflix-heavy day of streaming.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e will be available in the second quarter of 2019 for $399 in black, silver, and gold. The upgraded RAM/storage model and a cellular model will be available later, though pricing is unknown at this time. Are you interested in this new Samsung tablet?
