Sony Rumored to Unveil Snapdragon 845 Smartphone at CES 2018
Sony’s a huge consumer electronics company that puts out video games, televisions, audio equipment, smartphones, and more every year. The Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, then, fits the Japan-based company to a T, and it’s no surprise that Sony’s already started sending out invites to its annual CES 2018 press conference. It’ll be a newsworthy one: Rumors suggest it’s where the company will unveil its first Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-based smartphone
That’s not a lot of information to go on, but we know a bit about what to expect. On Sony’s website earlier this month, a couple of mysterious user agents with the model numbers H8116 and H8166 were discovered. Further investigation revealed devices with model numbers H8216, H8266, H8276, and H8296, but the H8266 seems the most likely candidate for Sony’s Snapdragon 845-powered smartphone.
A benchmark database entry shows the H8266 sporting the Snapdragon 845 and an Adreno 640 GPU. It appears to come in two variants, one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, both of which have a 18:9 4K display.
According to the benchmark listing, Sony’s new flagship was able to score 2393 on a single-core test and 8300 on a multi-core test. We rarely report on benchmark database entries due to the fact that they’re easy to spoof, but it looks like the details are lining up just in time for CES 2018.
The Snapdragon 845 SoC is the flagship chipset that Qualcomm announced earlier this month, and it’s packed to the brim with features such as UHD Premium video recording feature, which to bring lifelike colors to the next generation of devices, and the built-in Secure Processing Unit, which keeps critical data as secure as possible.
