aCropalypse vulnerability can recover sensitive information previously removed from Pixel screenshots
A newly revealed vulnerability could reveal previously redacted details from screenshots if the edits were made using a Pixel device.
A new vulnerability was revealed by researchers Simon Aarons and David Buchanan that allows previously redacted details to be reclaimed, if the screenshots were taken and changes were made, using the markup editing tool found on Google Pixel devices. While the issue has been addressed in the latest March security patch, the problem still remains in all the images and screenshots that were shared over the years prior to this patch.
Android 11's auto-reset permissions feature is rolling out to devices running Android 6.0 and above
Android 11's auto-reset permissions feature is rolling out to devices running Android 6.0 and above through Google Play Protect.
Google introduced a new auto-reset permissions feature with Android 11 to automatically revoke sensitive runtime permissions from apps that have not been in use for a few months. In September last year, the company announced that it would bring the feature to devices running older versions of Android starting December 2021. However, Google pushed the initial rollout back by a month in December and promised to bring the feature to devices running Android 6.0 and above by the end of Q1 2022. As promised, Google has started rolling it out to devices running Android 6.0 and above through Google Play Protect.
LineageOS 17.1 is being dropped as work on LineageOS 19.0 continues
In a Reddit post, the LineageOS team revealed that LineageOS 17.1, based on Android 10, has now reached retirement.
LineageOS is the most popular custom ROM by far, providing hundreds of Android devices a light, near-stock version of Android. LineageOS 18.1, which is based on Android 11, is the latest version of the ROM. But with Android 12 out for a while now, many fans are looking forward to the next iteration: LineageOS 19.0. While we still don't know when the new builds based on Android 12 will arrive, the LineageOS team has now announced that they're ending support for LineageOS 17.1.

Fairphone was founded in 2013 as a more sustainable smartphone manufacturer, with the goal of producing long-lasting smartphones without conflict materials. The Fairphone 4 was just released, but the company hasn't forgotten about its earlier models, and now the Fairphone 2 from 2015 is receiving another major Android update.
Android 11's auto-reset permissions feature is coming to older OS versions
Google is bringing Android 11’s auto-reset permissions feature to all devices running Android 6.0 through Android 10. Here's what this means.
With Android 11, Google introduced auto-revoking permissions that barred unused apps from accessing sensitive permissions granted by the user. While this privacy feature currently remains exclusive to Android 11 and above devices, it will soon be trickling down to older versions of Android — all the way back to Android 6.0.

Since all of its latest flagships have already been updated to the new software release, Huawei has now started rolling out EMUI 11 for a couple of older flagships, including the Huawei P30, P30 Pro, Mate 20, Mate 20 X, and Mate 20 Pro.

The OnePlus 7 and 7T are getting their final Android 10-based OxygenOS update
The OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T are receiving their final Android 10-based update as OnePlus works on polishing the stable Android 11 update.
Last month, OnePlus finally released the first Open Beta of Android 11 based on OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series, allowing early adopters to test drive the latest software ahead of the public release. As OnePlus works on readying the Android 11 for prime time, the company is rolling out a new software update to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series in what will be the final Android 10-based stable update for these 2019 smartphones.
The Redmi 7 might just get stable MIUI 12 after all
The Redmi 7 in China has received a MIUI 12 stable beta, keeping the hopes alive for a stable MIUI 12 update if everything goes smoothly.
Xiaomi has a good track record for providing long-time software support to its smartphones irrespective of its price category or segment. While the base Android version may not receive as many updates, the MIUI version for these devices does get a bump up with all the feature improvements in two. So it came as a big surprise when the company announced last month that it was not going to update the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3 to MIUI 12. But it looks like at least the Redmi 7 might receive the stable MIUI 12 update after all.
Here's why the Termux app is no longer receiving updates on Google Play
The Termux team has stopped updating the Play Store version. To continue getting updates, users should migrate to the F-Droid build.
As many of you may well be aware, the Android operating system is powered by the Linux kernel underneath. Despite this, Android and Linux apps are not readily exchangeable because of different runtime systems and libraries. You can, however, get a terminal emulator app like Termux up and running on any Android device. For years, crafty Android users have been using Termux as a handy terminal emulation software as well as a powerful GNU/Linux environment, thanks to its substantially large Linux Package Collection. Unfortunately, the app is now at a pivotal junction of its life, as its developers have decided to stop updating the Play Store version altogether and migrate to F-Droid due to recently introduced Google Play policy and Android SDK behavior changes.
Google reportedly requires new Android TV devices support AV1 video decoding
Google has reportedly required that all new Android TV products launching later this year running Android 10+ support AV1 video decoding.
With there being many different hardware companies making smartphones, tablets, televisions, PCs, and silicon; software companies making apps and operating systems; and media giants making streaming services, it's important for key industry players to agree to support certain video coding formats to ensure the best user experience, minimize network use, and support a wide variety of devices. That's why the Alliance for Open Media created the AV1 video codec. It's designed to efficiently transmit video over the Internet with a minimal impact on quality. The best part is that it's royalty-free so companies don't have to pay any licensing fees, but sadly, its adoption has been rather slow until very recently. AV1's adoption may accelerate in 2021 as Google is reportedly mandating that all new Android TV products support AV1 video decoding.

An unofficial build of LineageOS 17.1 based on Android 10 is now available for the Honor 5X, courtesy of XDA Senior Member BadDaemon.
The smartphone industry is known for being fast-paced, with new devices coming out one after the other. With all the rapid releases and the shiny new hardware, people often forget that devices that have already been launched do not necessarily become unusable just because their successors have been released. Regarding the obvious lack of official software updates in the long run, we are constantly impressed by some of the feats pulled off by third-party developers in our forums. While Android 11 is the latest Android dessert, Android 10 is still a new thing for some legacy devices. The latest device that joined the Android 10 family is Honor 5X, which has just received an unofficial port of LineageOS 17.1.

One of the most common reasons that users come to our forums is to flash custom mods, kernels, or ROMs. But none of these aftermarket development efforts are feasible without having the means to install them. Available on a plethora of Android-powered devices, TWRP has been the go-to custom recovery for anyone looking to modify the software on their device. And now, the project has been bumped to version 3.5.0, bringing many improvements in decryption, bug fixes, and support with devices that launched with Android 10.

The OnePlus 5 finally receives OxygenOS 10.0.1 with several bug fixes and September 2020 patches. OnePlus 5T update to follow soon.
After several months of waiting, OnePlus 5 and 5T users finally got the OxygenOS 10 stable update (based on Android 10) for their devices earlier this year in May. But it was chock full of issues, ranging from poor battery life to broken EIS. The update was so problematic that OnePlus didn't even list the build for download on its support website to prevent users from upgrading to the broken release. Since then, the company hasn't released any OxygenOS 10 stable updates for the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
