Samsung's One UI Android skin received a major overhaul last year in October when the company first announced the One UI 2.0 beta program for the Galaxy S10 series. The One UI 2.0 update introduced all the new features Google rolled out with Android 10, along with a couple of minor UI changes, improvements to the Smart Lock screen, and more. A stable version of the update first made its way to a couple of Samsung's flagship devices, including the Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy Note 10 series, the Galaxy S9 series, and the Galaxy Note 9 series. Soon thereafter, the company rolled out the stable update for some of its budget and mid-range devices like the Galaxy M20, Galaxy M30, Galaxy M40, Galaxy M31, Galaxy A30, Galaxy A50s and, most recently, the Galaxy A70. Now, the company is reportedly rolling out the One UI 2.0 update for the Galaxy A70s and the Galaxy A6 (2018).

Samsung's current-gen flagship Galaxy S20 family comes with One UI 2.1, a small increment over the Android 10 based One UI 2.0 skin found in Galaxy S10 and Note 10 lineup. The OEM will eventually deliver the new update to legacy phones, although a proper timeline is not available yet. To Samsung's credit, the mid-rangers are not exactly left behind in terms of software updates either, as Galaxy M30 secured the Android 10 OTA a few days ago. One UI 2.0 also reached Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50s in February, but the update story has a few twists in case of the Galaxy A70.

Realme is treading with a fast pace, especially when it comes to launching new devices. Earlier this month, they launched their first true flagship, the Realme X2 Pro, with Snapdragon 855+, 50W SuperVOOC charging, 64MP quad cameras, and so many other exciting features. At the same event in Madrid, Spain, the company also launched the Realme X2, which is the Realme XT but with faster 30W charging and a Snapdragon 730G for better performance, and the Realme Q (Realme 5 Pro in India). But one aspect of Realme phones that has left user expectations sore is the software and the company is now working to bring the experience closer to stock Android with ColorOS 7.

The latest version of Android, formerly known as Android Q, will be called Android 10 as part of Google's newest efforts to give Android a fresher look. That's it, no fluff, no dessert name---just Android 10. And while this may make sense from a business perspective, it is still not sitting well with Android enthusiasts. Nonetheless, Google made the announcement in anticipation of the OS' stable release, which should now come sooner than later, and with it, some companies have started detailing their plans for rolling out the new OS to Android users. One of these companies is HMD Global, which has outlined their Android 10 update roadmap for their Nokia device lineup.

Google officially rolled out Android 10 back in September last year. While the company did release MIUI 11 for the popular POCO F1 back in November last year, the build was based on Android 9 Pie. Late last year, Xiaomi released the kernel sources of the Android 10 update for the POCO F1, Mi MIX 2s, Mi MIX 3, and the Mi 8 series. This suggested that the company was finally prepping up the Android 10 based release for these devices. The user experience on Samsung devices took a turn for the better ever since the company made the jump to One UI. Samsung paid a lot of attention to all the goodness that the new UX brings to its flagships, but it left one set of rather revolutionary methods for customizations under-advertised. We're talking about Good Lock, the app suite present on OneUI phones that offers a lot of customization options. Good Lock offers modules ranging from Always-on Display customizations, multi-window modules, edge-lighting effects, and even theme OneUI. Samsung devices are now on Android 10 through OneUI 2.0, and Good Lock has also received an update to make it compatible with the update. Individual modules within Good Lock also need to be updated to support OneUI 2.0. Consequently, NavStar module for Good Lock has been updated to support OneUI 2.0.

Apple makes some interesting consumer hardware in the form of the iPhone. Apple exercises complete control over the hardware and software of the iPhone and its other devices, enabling it to deliver an arguably unparalleled experience. This experience lets them charge heavy markups on their products, and several consumers are fine with this cost for the luxury of "it just works". But all of this control from Apple has given its products and their underlying experiences the analogy of a "walled garden" -- you can only enjoy the experiences that Apple wants you to enjoy, and experience nothing else, good or bad. So even after you pay exorbitant amounts of money for exciting hardware, you don't truly own the hardware -- you merely have the license to use it within the boundaries set by Apple. Several developers disagree with these boundaries, and they set out to remedy the situation with Project Sandcastle, allowing you to run Android on your Apple iPhone 7.

Two months after announcing the Pixel 4, Google announced the first Pixel Feature Drop. Instead of rolling out major new features individually, Google decided to wait to unveil new features and drop them all at hence in the same update. Hence, Pixel "Feature Drop." The first one only added a few features such as auto-framing in Google Duo, post-snap Portrait Mode in Google Photos, and automatic call screen in the Google Phone app, but the second Feature Drop is adding a dozen new features. Here's a chart from Google that lists the new features arriving on Pixel devices with the March update:

[Update: Rolling out widely] Android 10 "Rules" automation feature rolls out to some Pixel devices

The Rules feature in Android 10 has started rolling out to some Pixel users. It helps users automate changes that they regularly make in Settings.

Back in May, we discovered the first signs of a new feature in Android Q Beta 3, code-named "Routines". Strings in the SettingsIntelligence APK showed that the feature would be presented to users as "Rules", but it wasn't live for any Pixel user. Rules are Google's take on Bixby Routines, and much of the same functionality can also be found in Google Assistant Routines. In July, Mishaal was able to fully activate the feature on a Google Pixel 2 XL running Android Q Beta 5, but the feature still hadn't rolled out. At that time, we thought that the feature would be shown off as part of the Google Pixel 4's launch Android 10 software, as it was a bit too late for Google to add the feature in the first stable Android 10 release. However, the Pixel 4's launch came and went last week, and we noted that Rules was not present on the launch software, which was strange as the feature had been in development for at least five months already.

Realme, a BBK Electronics-owned brand, separated from OPPO in July 2018 as it started operating as an independent brand. However, the company still used OPPO's ColorOS custom user interface based on Android for all of its phones. In 2019, it first stated that it would develop a new "RealmeOS," but the plans for the same were shelved in November 2019. Realme shifted gears to developing a lightly customized variant of OPPO's Android 10-based ColorOS 7, which it called Realme UI. In January, it rolled out the stable Android 10 update with Realme UI to the Realme 3 Pro and the Realme XT. It also opened beta programs for rolling out the update to the Realme X2 and the Realme X2 Pro, while clarifying that the Realme 1, Realme C1, and Realme 2 would not get the update. Now, it has rolled out the stable Android 10-based Realme UI update to the Realme 5 Pro (review) and the Realme X (review).
