OnePlus 3/3T get stable Android Pie with OxygenOS 9.0.2
In addition to the long-awaited bump in the Android version, Oxygen OS 9.0.2 brings the April 2019 security patches to the OnePlus 3/OnePlus 3T.
It's finally time for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users to get their hands on stable Android Pie. The community beta kicked off in April and the company is ready to roll out the official update now. The incremental roll-out of the update, that is, Oxygen OS 9.0.2 has been initiated already.

It has been revealed that both the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 are both getting updated to Android Pie in the near future.
Xiaomi has a number of devices on the market right now and many have been wondering if their device will get updated to Android Pie. Xiaomi's updates are a bit different than other OEMs as they have their own ROM (MIUI) that they roll out to devices for years. Most OEMs stop pushing out updates after a couple of years, but Xiaomi maintains multiple builds of MIUI which are based on different versions of Android. So while dozens of their devices are getting updated to MIUI 10, that doesn't mean they're getting the version that is based on Android Pie. However, it has been revealed that both the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 are both getting updated to Android Pie in the near future.

Since the V11 Pro almost leans into the premium segment in the country, it has been among the company's top priorities for an Android 9.0 Pie update. As per schedule, the Android Pie update is rolling out to the V11 Pro units in India and it brings a Dark theme, an improved gaming mode, a new quick toggle for switching SIMs, automated shortcuts, and much more.

HTC may not have given up on smartphones just yet, but there is little left for consumers to stick around for. The Taiwanese OEM, which was once a contender for the pole position for the top Android smartphone brand, is now trying hard to attract new customers or even keep the old ones. HTC's plans for 2019 included focusing on existing U12+ flagships as well as releasing new phones. This plan does not seem to be going as well as, despite the Android Pie announcement in August 2018, HTC has now confirmed that several of its devices will not receive Android Pie sooner than Q2 2019.

Honor is seeking beta testers in India for the upcoming Android Pie-based EMUI 9 update for its mid-range smartphone Honor 7X.
Honor 7X, a budget smartphone launched with Android 7.0 Nougat back in 2017, should soon receive its second major update after an Android Oreo upgrade last year. It was one of the 11 Huawei and Honor devices to have received the EMUI 9.1 beta based on Android 9 Pie in China last month. Its successor – the Honor 8X – is already getting a stable Android Pie update in China, and the 7X should follow shortly. But in the meanwhile, Honor has also started looking for beta testers for the Honor 7X in India, hinting that the stable update is on its way.

Samsung has been amazing us with the timeliness of its updates ever since it announced One UI based on Android Pie. Besides targeting its flagships, Samsung has also shown a similar enthusiasm for its mid-rangers like the Galaxy A6+ and entry-level devices like the Galaxy J4+ or Galaxy J6. Now, another affordable smartphone from Samsung – the Galaxy On7 Prime is getting a taste of the Android Pie update in India.

Software fragmentation is the Achilles' heel of Android. Every year, Google releases a new version of the operating system and in a few months, the new version gets adopted by only a small percentage of devices. That is mainly because of the high cost of development for manufacturers and the lack of care from many users. However, outdated software can be insecure, so Google is trying its best to fix the situation by introducing initiatives like Project Treble and APEX. Yet it doesn't look like the overall update situation has much improved, although sadly our usual way of telling that is no longer possible. Traditionally, seeing the Android distribution of versions was as easy as checking this website, but things changed 6 months ago.
OnePlus rolls out a second Android Pie beta for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T
OnePlus has pushed out the second beta of OxygenOS based on Android Pie for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T with some bug fixes.
OnePlus maintains an active channel of beta updates for its users, routinely testing out new features in OxygenOS for its smartphones. While the relative newness of the OnePlus 5/5T and the OnePlus 6/6T earns them most of the company's attention in updates, the company has not forgotten older models - OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. After almost a year of assuring, the company recently announced Android 9.0 Pie for the OnePlus 3/3T as part of a Community beta to weed out bugs or inaccuracies before rolling out a stable version. Moving forth with the testing, the company is now bringing the second beta update for the two smartphones based on Android Pie.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro was launched in November last year, with minor upgrades over the Note 5 Pro in the forms of dual selfie cameras and a notched display. Since the device was typically the same as the Note 5 Pro in terms of internal specifications, it failed to generate a lot of curiosity among the users and even prompted Xiaomi to rush to the launch of its successor - the Redmi Note 7 Pro - in India. Despite the lukewarm response it got, there's no denying that the Redmi Note 6 Pro is a practical choice for its price and if you made this choice too, you'll soon be able to enjoy Android Pie on your smartphone.

Android is the operating system of over 2 billion smartphones around in the world. A good chunk of the Android smartphones sold worldwide come from Chinese technology giant Huawei and its sub-brand Honor. Like its many rival Chinese brands, Huawei ships a heavily customized build of Android on all its smartphones. The software is called "EMUI," or Emotion UI as it was once known. Huawei's sub-brand Honor also ships EMUI on its smartphones, although under a different name called "Magic UI."

Traditionally, Samsung had been among the laggards in terms of the latest software update. But over the last one year, the situation has improved a lot and Samsung has been pushing the latest One UI update based on Android 9.0 Pie to not only its flagships but also some mid-range devices. Now, three more Samsung smartphones from the budget and the mid-range segments are getting a taste of Pie. With the One UI update, the Samsung Galaxy J4/J4+ and Galaxy J6 will get improvements to the user experience, notifications, Samsung Keyboard, Bixby, as well as the overall performance.
The HP TouchPad is back from the dead thanks to an Android 9 Pie custom ROM
Remember the HP TouchPad? The tablet that ran webOS and was sold for crazy low prices during a fire sale? Developers have just ported Android 9 Pie to it!
The HP TouchPad is one of the most iconic tablets. It was initially released in 2011 with webOS, a mobile operating system that, in retrospect, was ahead of its time with features like gesture navigation. Just over a month after the TouchPad's release, HP announced that they would be ending support for all webOS devices, so the tablet substantially dropped in value. The tablet, which retailed at a starting price of $499, famously went on sale for as low as $99. Enthusiasts quickly swept up the remaining stock of the TouchPad, and developers began work on porting Android 2.3 Gingerbread to the device. Newer Android ports have been developed for the aging tablet, and now Android 9 Pie is the latest Android version to run on the device.
Bliss OS based on Android Pie for x86 PCs now comes with the Google Play Store
Bliss OS is an Android Pie custom ROM for x86-based laptop and desktop PCs. It now comes with the Google Play Store pre-installed.
Although Android dominates the mobile OS industry, Google has never officially dipped its toes into the PC space. Thankfully, Android's open-source nature and versatility let developers get creative and port the OS to many officially unsupported devices. For example, the developers of Bliss ROMs maintain a version of Android Pie for x86 PCs and laptops. I am a member of their Telegram group and I know the team has been hard at work squashing bugs to make Bliss OS as reliable as possible. They released a new version, 11.8, which now includes the Google Play Store.

One of the lesser known features introduced in Android Pie is Smart Selection through the Recent App overview. The reason for its obscurity could be attributed to the fact that this feature is exclusive to the Google Pixel lineup, and even within them, is available on the Pixel 2 and newer. With Smart Selection, you can copy text and images from applications as they are visible in the recent apps overview without needing to open those apps again just to copy the text or image.
OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T's latest OxygenOS beta brings Android 9 Pie
Good news for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T owners around the world: Android Pie is coming. After a brief closed beta, a public beta has now been released!
It wasn't too long ago that we saw OnePlus get into a huge controversy for prematurely killing their 2015 flagship, the OnePlus 2, by not following up on their update promises. Back then, they promised an update to Android Nougat for the OnePlus 2, which launched with Android Lollipop and was later updated to Android Marshmallow. This update was, however, only released for its successors, the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T, while the OnePlus 2 was left in the dark, with no possibility of an official update despite reiterated promises. OnePlus has greatly corrected this behavior since then, though. Not only have they released a full 2 updates for the OnePlus 3/3T (Android Nougat and Android Oreo), but a third one, based on Android Pie, has also been promised and now seems to be coming sooner than later.

Huawei's sub-brand Honor is now looking for beta testers for Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 on 2017's flagship device Honor 8 Pro.
Huawei, as well as its sub-brand Honor, used to not have a good track record when it came to releasing timely software updates for their older smartphones. However, things seem to be picking up pace with the Android Pie-based EMUI 9 releases, and now Honor is inviting users to preview the software on one of their older flagships. After the Honor View 10, Honor 9, and Honor 8X, it's update time for another, relatively older, device from the company.
OPPO F1, R5/R5s, R7s, R7 Plus, Lenovo P2, Wileyfox Swift/Storm, and Yu Yuphoria get LineageOS 16 support
LineageOS has added in official support and builds of LineageOS 16 based on Android Pie for the Oppo F1, Lenovo P2, Wileyfox Swift, Yu Yuphoria and others.
LineageOS went official with their Android Pie release in the form of LineageOS 16, starting with an initial batch of devices that included the Nexus 6, Xiaomi Poco F1, the OnePlus 5/5T and many others; followed by several more added over the weeks. Now, the LineageOS team has added a bunch of new devices to their ever-increasing list of supported devices.
