Best high-refresh-rate games for the iPhone in 2023

Modern Pro iPhones have displays that can refresh as fast as 120Hz, and these great mobile games take advantage of this technology.

Apple has taken a while to bring high-refresh-rate displays to the iPhone, despite them being found on the best iPads for many years now. The first ProMotion display came to the iPhone in 2021 when Apple debuted the iPhone 13 Pro series. Even though the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max also have ProMotion displays, the company hasn't given this treatment to base-model phones.

Apple Arcade pros and cons: Is the service worth it?

Apple's subscription services continue to grow, and Arcade happens to be one of the prominent examples. This service offers subscribers a wide range of premium games available on the latest iPhones, iPads, Macs, and even Apple TVs. Unlike cloud gaming services, though, Apple Arcade runs its titles locally on your hardware, and, as a result, many of these games work offline.

Apple hikes TV+, Arcade, News+, and One bundle prices starting today

Apple raised the prices of three subscription services today — Apple TV+, Apple News+, and Apple Arcade — for both new customers and current subscribers. The change takes place in most regions, including the U.S. and Canada, but pricing remains unchanged in select markets. For new subscribers, the new prices are effective immediately. Current subscribers will be charged the new rates for their existing subscription at their next billing cycle. Since these three services are included in the Apple One bundle, Apple has raised the new bundle pricing as well.

Subscription services are a double-edged sword. On one hand, you get the latest and greatest for a fixed, reasonable monthly price. On the other, you don't buy any of the content's licenses, and you could lose access to any or all of it at any given moment. While this business model faces a lot of criticism, many customers actually prefer it over regular purchases. Apple Arcade is a subscription service from the Cupertino firm. As its name suggests, you get to play plenty of games for a monthly fee. Last month, a new Leaving Arcade Soon section appeared on the App Store. The games that had been listed there are no longer available on the service.

Back in late 2019, Apple launched its Arcade gaming service. This addition to its rich family of subscription services caters to casual gamers who are tired of ads and in-app purchases. By paying $4.99 per month, users get access to over 200 premium games on their favorite iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs. Expectedly, when a user cancels their subscription, they lose access to all of the Apple Arcade games they had previously played. What many players don't know, though, is that the game catalogue sometimes shrinks.

Carriers often offer some pretty cool perks to get you to stick with them. Of course, with the smartphone market in the U.S. depending heavily on carriers and carrier support (something that has both pros and many cons), these carriers need these perks to stand out from the tight competition. Often, these perks come in the form of discounts on either smartphones or cell plans, but Verizon has an interesting one now, at least if you're a smartphone gamer. Now, Verizon users can enjoy a free Google Play Pass subscription for getting free games (and perks on games) on the Google Play Store.
