ASUS is chiefly known for its computer products and laptops, and widely hailed for the Republic of Gamers aka ROG series. In spite of selling smartphones for several years now, it is still taking a slow yet steady route, launching fewer smartphones that other competitors. The company just make some big headlines with yesterday's launch of its flagship, the ASUS Zenfone 6 with a flipping camera. But on the sidelines, ASUS is also taking note of overdue Android updates and released a stable Android Pie update for the mid-rangers, ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 and the Zenfone Max M2 last month. Google officially released Android Pie to the public on August 6th of last year. This was months after a public beta test and we already know that Google works closely with some OEMs to help them get the latest update pushed out as quickly as possible. Most companies have delayed these major updates until the end of last year and early this year. Historically, we have seen the newer devices from companies get the latest update first and ASUS has released an official roadmap for when its ZenFone series will get the Android 9 Pie update.

ASUS has been rolling out ZenUI 5.0 to a number of smartphones in the past few weeks, and it's time for the ASUS Zenfone 4 Max to get it as well. When the Zenfone 4 Max launched at the end of last year, it came out with Android 7.0 Nougat, getting updated to ZenUI 4.0 shortly after. At the time, Android Oreo had just launched with many other devices coming out with it already installed. The ASUS Zenfone 4 Max is admittedly a lower-end device, but it still perplexed users. The ZenUI 5.0 update with Android 8.1 Oreo is beginning to roll out to it now.
