The LineageOS team has been hard at work extending official LineageOS 19 builds based on Android 12 to as many devices as possible. The developers released the first official builds for nearly 40 devices back in April and added some more smartphones to the roster over the next few weeks. Now, the maintainers have extended support to several more devices, including the POCO F2 Pro, POCO F3, and the global Exynos edition of the Samsung Galaxy S10.

LineageOS remains the most popular custom ROM out there. It's backed by a strong and active community that’s always striving to make the newest version of Andriod accessible to more users. Earlier in March, the team at LineageOS released LineageOS 18.1, the latest release based on Android 11. At the launch time, LineageOS 18.1 was made available to nearly sixty Android devices. But this list has continued to grow in size over the past weeks. Last month we saw the official builds of LineageOS 18.1 going live for the Galaxy Note 3, Mi A2, LG 3, Galaxy S5, OnePlus 6/6T, and more. The OnePlus 7T and Google’s Pixel 3 series joined the list shortly after. Now ten more phones have just been added to the official LineageOS 18.1 build roster.

If you consider yourself a true flashaholic, then the name "Resurrection Remix" should ring a bell. The custom ROM is known for its style and customizability, while its foundation is based on bits and pieces from LineageOS, Pixel Experience, and OmniROM. The developers started rebasing the project on top of Android 10 a few months ago, and they are now confident enough to remove the beta tag. The Resurrection Remix team has recently announced its first set of stable builds based on Android 10 for a bunch of devices, including several Xiaomi smartphones and a few others from ASUS, OnePlus, Samsung, and other OEMs.

Now, the team has started rolling out Paranoid Android Quartz 4, which brings support for a few of these devices and adds a couple of noteworthy features to the ROM.

ASUS is one of the few smartphone makers that offer more than one kind of Android software experience on their smartphones. The company maintains a dedicated product lineup for Android purists that was initiated back in 2018 with the release of the ZenFone Max Pro M1. The phone was shipped with a close-to-stock build of Android 8.1 Oreo and received its Android 9 Pie update later on. Regarding Android 10, ASUS has been conducting a public beta test for a while. The OEM is now ready to offer the third beta build of Android 10 for the ZenFone Max Pro M1.

Earlier this year in April, the team behind the popular Paranoid Android custom ROM released Paranoid Android Quartz 1 — the first stable Android 10-based build of the ROM. At first, the ROM was released for a handful of devices and it included a ton of new features, like screen stabilization, a built-in screen recorder, FOD support, vibration adapted UI, and more. Soon thereafter, the team released Quartz 2 with 4 new features and support for more devices. Despite not taking part in the Android One program, ASUS launched the ZenFone Max Pro M1 back in 2018 with a close-to-stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo. The phone received its Android Pie update around a year ago, and ASUS delivered a beta version of Android 10 for this device in January 2020. While we don't know any specific timeframe regarding the arrival of the stable Android 10 update as of yet, it seems quite close as ASUS decided to publish a second beta build of Android 10 for the ZenFone Max Pro M1.

Earlier this month, the team behind the popular Paranoid Android custom ROM released Paranoid Android Quartz 1 — the first stable Android 10-based build of the ROM — for a handful of devices. While there have been several unofficial Paranoid Android builds floating around on our forums, Paranoid Android Quartz 1 was the first stable release from the team since their Android Nougat-based builds. For the initial stable release, the team added a boatload of features to the ROM, including things like screen stabilization, a built-in screen recorder, FOD support, vibration adapted UI, and more. Building upon the feedback on the Quartz 1 release, the team is now rolling out Paranoid Android Quartz 2 with 4 new features and support for a few more devices.

LineageOS may be the most popular custom ROM out there, but that doesn't mean there aren't also other popular aftermarket builds. Custom ROMs like Pixel Experience, OmniROM, Resurrection Remix, and Paranoid Android also have a large number of fans. Each of these custom ROMs offer their own take on what the Android experience should be like. Paranoid Android was known for its style and innovative features back in the day, and even if they aren't as large as they used to be after their original members were scouted by Nextbit (and later Razer), their remaining team members are still releasing new builds from time to time. After releasing a few beta builds based on Android 10 back in October, the Paranoid Android team has now announced the first stable releases for a handful of devices including the Essential Phone and a few others from ASUS, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.

Asus is updating its nearly two-year old budget phone to Android 10. The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, which launched in April 2018, is now receiving an Android 10 Beta in India and France. For a budget phone that's not part of the Android One program, getting two Android platform updates is indeed great news. However, as the device owners would recall, this wasn't totally unexpected at all. At the time of launch, Asus had promised to deliver two major Android updates including Android Q to the ZenFone Max Pro M1. The device received the first promised update in the form of Android 9.0 Pie back in April last year. And keeping its promise, Asus is now rolling out the second and final update to the device.

After months of thorough beta-testing, Android 10, the latest major version of Android, is now officially available. The update is rolling out to some devices, including Pixel smartphones, the Essential Phone, and, in a surprising turn of events, the Redmi K20 Pro, as well as the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro in the form of a beta update. It has also become available through the Android Open Source Project, providing OEMs and developers with the finalized Android 10 source code to play around and compile. This also means that custom ROMs are now due to come at any given time, and indeed, they have already started appearing: the first Android 10-based custom ROM is now available for download.

Over the years, ASUS has shifted its device strategy greatly. No longer do their phones have a heavy, bloated UI, like they used to before. Instead, new ASUS devices like the ZenFone 6 and the ROG Phone II are using much lighter takes on ZenUI, resembling stock Android Pie functionally and cosmetically. Devices like the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 have greatly benefited from this shift as the phone presented itself as an option for a clean Android experience in a price range that is notorious for monetized UX skins. The phone was expected to receive Android Pie, and indeed, it did. Despite being an early mid-range device at best, the phone nowadays still enjoys frequent updates, which serves as a testament to ASUS's improved mobile strategy.

The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 was one of the surprise releases from ASUS last year, one that managed to put pressure on Chinese OEMs in the budget and early mid-range. The phone not only featured decent specifications, it also was one of the few available options with a stock Android build. Asus backed the package up with a competitive price tag, and followed it up with kernel sources and the ability to unlock the bootloader. Now, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 has received its first official nightly of LineageOS 16 based on Android Pie.

Android Pie was publicly released by Google in August 2018, and several OEMs have since then gone on to update several flagship and mid-range devices in their portfolio to the latest update by Google (with the unfortunate exception of LG). Asus revealed its Android Pie upgrade plan for its ZenFone lineup, including several popular devices within the roadmap but with no dates. The update seemed to be on the horizon after Asus opened up an Android Pie Beta program for the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, but it took longer than expected. Asus ended up issuing an apology to its fans and customers and promised that Android Pie would be made available to the ZenFone Max Pro M1, ZenFone Max Pro M2, and ZenFone Max M2 by April 15th. True to its word, the update for the ZenFone Max Pro M1 and Max M2 have begun rolling out to devices.

Recently news has excited a lot of ASUS smartphone fans as the company announced their plan to upgrade devices to Android Pie. It was just this week when the company published a list of over a dozen different devices that they are currently planning to update. This seemed to be a long term plan as their announcement simply gave a vague date of 2019 for these updates. However, the company has gotten to the point where they are ready to announce the open beta Android Pie update for the ZenFone Max Pro M1.

The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 has been one of the more surprising releases in 2018, mainly because of its value-for-money factor coupled with a stock Android ROM. The phone ticked a lot of boxes for people who preferred a cleaner Android approach, and who consequently wanted to stay away from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 builds up on its predecessor, and goes on to compete against the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro. We've been happily recommending these devices to people, but our recommendation is likely to change because of a recent decision from ASUS.

Electronic Image Stabilization has been a topic of interest ever since Google announced Pixel devices with its support. The feature got many people talking, and manufacturers started adopting the technology instead of Optical Image Stabilization. As it turns out, one of the most popular phones in the Indian market, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 supports it, too. It just needs a little bit of tinkering to activate it.

The official release of Android Pie is out for the Google Pixel series and the Essential Phone, and the Android 9 source code has been uploaded to AOSP. For some users on the more popular devices, this means a swift update to the latest release is now possible—at least unofficially. The popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 4Mi 3, Mi 4, and Redmi 4X recently received fairly stable Android 9 ports, and now it's the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1's turn.

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 has quickly become one of the most popular mid-range phones in India, and for good reason. With a 6-inch FHD+ display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 system-on-chip, 4 or 6GBs of RAM, stock Android 8.1 Oreo, and a massive 5,000 mAh battery, it's not hard to see why Asus kept selling out of devices. (Fortunately, they've dropped their flash sale model and now offer the device 24/7.) One of the biggest downsides of buying a budget or mid-range smartphone is the camera quality—you just can't match the picture-taking quality of flagship devices like the Google Pixel 2, Samsung Galaxy S9, or OnePlus 6 on cheaper devices. Fortunately, that's where Google Camera ports come in.

One of the best developments in the Android community in recent years has been Google Camera ports. The Google Pixel's picture-taking ability is spectacular, even though the camera hardware may be better on other devices. A lot of the Google Pixel's photo magic comes from the Google Camera app. Features like HDR+ and portrait mode make the camera really shine. A vibrant community of developers and users has sprung up to bring these features to as many devices as possible.
