Nova Launcher has long been one of the best launcher apps for Android devices. Even though it has been around for over a decade, its developers have done a fantastic job keeping it up to date with the latest features. For this reason, it still is the go-to launcher app for millions of Android users. In September last year, the launcher received a major update with a visual overhaul, enhanced search, and new gestures. Now, it has received another significant update on the beta channel, bringing Material You theming support, a redesigned settings menu, even more gestures, and several other changes.

For Android users, there's an abundance of options when it comes to custom launchers. Almost every noted custom launcher brings a new flavor to the user experience. While a lot of launchers focus on giving you extra features, GCA, a custom launcher inspired by Chrome OS, takes the route of simplicity and minimalism. GCA is a single screen, single widget launcher, designed while keeping low-powered devices in mind. While the first version was developed especially for Android Go devices, the version 2.0 update is aimed at more fluidity and flexibility of usage.

When we talk about custom launchers, often people will mention the ones based on or similar to the Google Pixel Launcher. There's Lawnchair, Lean Launcher, Rootless Pixel Launcher, Ruthless and more. Rootless Pixel Launcher is an especially interesting one in that it's based on Android's open source Launcher3 and merged with decompiled Pixel Launcher sources. It's developed by Amir Zaidi, who has been working on the project since the original Google Pixel released. Lean Launcher and an upcoming Lawnchair release actually already use it as a base and add their own features on top of it. In a sense, Rootless Pixel Launcher is simply a stable software base which other developers can take and add to.
