How to check if your Android device supports Widevine DRM
Want to know if your Android device can stream HD videos from Netflix and Amazon Prime Video? Here's how to check for Widevine DRM support!
Many media streaming services, like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and others, use various types of Digital Rights Management (DRM) to protect their content from being copied and redistributed. Most DRM doesn't actually prevent this behavior, and instead mostly serves to annoy people paying for content, but that's a discussion for another time. Widevine is a widely-used DRM technology, often found in web and Android applications, but not all Android devices fully support Widevine DRM.
How to restore Widevine L1 DRM on the OPPO Find X2 Pro to stream Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in HD
Some OPPO Find X2 Pro units are unable to stream HD videos from Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. Here's why that happens and how you can fix it!
The OPPO Find X2 Pro (first impressions) is one of the latest flagship offerings from the Chinese smartphone brand. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865-powered behemoth features a 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with a whopping 120Hz refresh rate, a triple camera setup with a 48MP Sony IMX689 primary sensor, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. Additionally, the smartphone comes with a dedicated "Iris 5" display chip from PixelWorks, which certainly helps the OPPO Find X2 Pro to secure the "YouTube Signature Device" certification. The device is also whitelisted by Netflix as HDR playback capable on top of HD streaming - both of which are not possible without having a Widevine Level 1 DRM status.
Netflix adds the ASUS ZenFone 6, ASUS ROG Phone II, and TCL 10 series to its list of HD certified devices
Netflix has now added the ASUS ZenFone 6, ASUS ROG Phone II and the TCL 10 series to its list of HD/HDR certified devices.
In order to stream videos in HD resolution from popular streaming apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, your smartphone needs to have Widewine L1 certification. However, despite Widevine L1 certification, some devices aren't able to stream HD content on Netflix because the platform also has to manually whitelist devices to enable HD playback support. Over the last few months, Netflix has whitelisted several Samsung Galaxy devices for HD and HDR10 support, and most recently, the company added the OPPO Reno3, a few Sony Xperia phones, and the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite to its HD/HDR supported list. Now, according to a recent report from Android Police, the company has added the ASUS ZenFone 6 (ASUS 6Z in India), ROG Phone II, and the TCL 10 series to the list.

The POCOPHONE F1, or POCO F1 as its known in India, is one of the best smartphones from 2018 thanks to its affordability, flagship-tier hardware, acceptable camera quality, and custom development support. Unlike its closest competitors the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, however, the POCO F1 shipped from the factory without Widevine L1 certification. Our first introduction to Widevine DRM came about when we learned about its necessity to stream Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in HD quality. The controversy that arose after this revelation pushed OnePlus to offer users the chance to physically send in their devices to receive Widevine L1 certification. After POCO first announced that they would be bringing Widevine L1 support to the POCO F1, we assumed this meant that users would have to send their devices to Xiaomi. However, we've since learned that it's actually possible to provision devices with Widevine L1 after they leave the factory, and as Xiaomi promised, the POCO F1 is finally getting an update with Widevine L1 certification in the latest MIUI 10 9.2.25 beta.
Xiaomi Poco F1 doesn't support Widevine L1, meaning no Netflix HD
The Xiaomi Poco F1/Pocophone F1 doesn't support Widevine L1 certification, which means you can't watch Netflix or Amazon Video in high-definition.

At its price, it has some impressive specifications like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip, 6GB or 8GB RAM, 64GB/128GB/256GB internal storage, and a 4,000 mAh battery. It even has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot, making it a great choice for those interested in using the smartphone as a media consumption device. However, there is one flaw. As reported by AndroidPure, the Xiaomi Pocophone F1/Poco F1 lacks Widevine L1, meaning you can't watch videos from Netflix or Amazon Prime Video in high-definition.
