Samsung Notes update brings Galaxy Note 10 features to older Galaxy phones

The latest update for Samsung Notes (v3.1.04.16) brings Galaxy Note 10 features to older Galaxy devices even before the One UI 2.0 update.

With the launch of the Galaxy Note 10 earlier this year, Samsung introduced a number of cool new features to the Samsung Notes app. The update included handwriting to text conversion, among other things, allowing users to instantly convert their handwritten notes into text documents. This feature was also capable of replacing your handwriting with the recognized text and it even allowed you copy the recognized text for use in other apps. At first, the company promised that these features would make their way to older Galaxy devices with One UI 2.0. However, Samsung is now bringing them to other devices with the latest update to the Samsung Notes app.

Enable 4K@60fps video on Exynos Samsung Galaxy Note 8/Galaxy S8

XDA Junior Member KunkerLV has shared a script to enable 4K@60fps video recording on the Exynos Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Recording 4K video at 60fps has become a popular feature in flagship smartphones this year. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is the first Qualcomm SoC to support this feature, and we have seen it be adopted by phones like the OnePlus 6, Samsung Galaxy S9, LG G7 ThinQ, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, and more. The Apple iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XR also support 4K@60fps video recording thanks to the encoding capabilities of the Apple A11 and A12 SoCs. HiSilicon's Kirin SoCs still don't have 4K@60fps encoding support (even the Kirin 980 doesn't have this feature). On the other hand, Samsung's flagship Exynos SoCs have arguably been ahead of Snapdragon SoCs in terms of video encoding capabilities.

Since launching on Apple iOS, users of Android smartphones and tablets have been wondering when Fortnite would launch on their devices too. After 30 days, Fortnite Mobile on Android will become available for all supported Android devices. If you're wondering if your device will be supported, we've got the list of supported Android devices taken straight from Epic Games' own website.

Biometric authentication has taken on new forms in modern smartphones thanks to advancements in imaging and display technology. We now have smartphones capable of precise facial recognition like the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Apple iPhone X. We are also getting smartphones with in-display fingerprint sensors like the Vivo NEX and Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS. Meanwhile, Samsung is reportedly dropping their iris recognition technology in favor of a 3D facial recognition sensor and an in-display fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S10. But even if the Samsung Galaxy S10 marks the company's departure from iris scanners on their flagship phones, it's possible that they may include the feature on one or more of their budget Galaxy offerings this year—possibly a 2018 refresh of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Plus.

The Samsung Calendar application on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is receiving an update which brings stickers. This is useful for a number of different use cases, including simply being able to glance at your calendar and know what's going on. Want to mark a birthday? Simply set a birthday balloon emoji. An anniversary? Set a heart on the date of your anniversary and you'll see it whenever you open your calendar. On older Samsung devices, the S Planner application allowed you to set a sticker for a particular day, exactly in the same manner that the Samsung Calendar application lets you.

How to fix the missing OEM Unlock button on the Samsung Galaxy S9/S8/Note 8

If you're missing the OEM Unlock button on your Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, or Samsung Galaxy S8, here's a tutorial on how to get it.

By

On any smartphone running Android 5.0 Lollipop and higher, you may find an option called 'OEM unlocking' in developer options. By toggling this option, you'll get the ability to unlock the bootloader on your device. Unlocking the bootloader lets you install a custom recovery such as TWRP, root your device to access system files, flash custom ROMs, modify the kernel, and much more. If you own the international/Exynos version of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, or Samsung Galaxy S9 and you're missing the OEM unlock toggle, then there's a fix available.

Samsung introduced curved edge displays to their phone lineup starting with the Galaxy Note Edge, a phone that was sold in limited quantities. The Edge display became mainstream with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in 2015. With the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and Samsung Galaxy S9, every Samsung flagship device now has a curved display. The Edge display was also accompanied by the Edge Screen feature, which a developer has replicated to work on any Android device.

Navigation Gestures updated with better Nav Bar hiding, App Launch action, Android P compatibility, & more

Navigation Gestures by XDA brings iPhone X style gesture control to any Android device. We've been hard at work and our latest update brings a lot!

By

We launched our Navigation Gestures app a little over 3 weeks ago, and since our last update, we've been hard at work to address the overwhelming amount of feedback we've received. Our app, which was originally designed to be a simple gesture control app based on the Apple iPhone X's gestures, has since gained a lot of customization features. We're not stopping there, either, as a future update will allow users to create gesture navigation controls in the vein of the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 6. If you're tired of all the screen real-estate that your boring software navigation buttons take up, then you should give our latest app update a try. It's totally free for all of the basic actions and settings!

The Best Mods for the Galaxy Note 8

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a beast of a smartphone, but the stock firmware only scratches the surface of the hardware's potential. Here are the best mods for the Galaxy Note 8, including QHD 60fps video recording, a fix for the deep discharge issue, and more.

It goes without saying that the Galaxy Note 8, the newest in Samsung's long-running device lineup, is one of the best smartphones on the market -- especially if you've got a thing for styluses. The whopping 6.3-inch phablet sports a capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 6GB of RAM, dual 12MP rear cameras, and a 3,300mAh battery that supports both Qi wireless charging and Samsung's Adaptive Fast Charging tech. The undoubted highlight is Samsung's S Pen stylus, of course, which can access app shortcuts, translate highlighted text, and even compose memos when the Galaxy Note 8's screen is switched off. But it's not to be outdone by Bixby, Samsung's artificially intelligent assistant that identifies objects in photos (via Bixby Vision), serves up contextually relevant information depending on your location and the time of day, and switches off smart home appliances with a simple voice command.

Smartphone manufacturers continue to roll out fixes for KRACK, a critical exploit in Wi-Fi's WPA2 encryption system that allows attackers to steal sensitive information, and Samsung's the latest of the bunch. On Monday, it added Secure Wi-Fi to the Galaxy Note 8 via a software update, a new VPN service designed protected against KRACK and other Wi-Fi exploits.

New Bixby Update Completely Kills the Bixby Button When It's Disabled

A new update now arriving for Galaxy S8/S8+ users changes the behaviour of disabling the Bixby button. The button is completely killed if it is disabled.

At this point, the saga of Bixby has gone on for a while. To recap, Bixby was launched alongside the Galaxy S8 and S8+ on March 29, 2017. The virtual assistant was given great prominence, to the extent that there was a dedicated hardware button to access it on the Galaxy S8/S8+ (and which was also later included with the Galaxy Note 8). Samsung heavily promoted the assistant, but at that time, major features such as Bixby Voice weren't even ready and the enthusiast community was immediately interested in being able to remap or disable the button.

Why Glass is Replacing Aluminium and Plastic in Flagship Smartphones, and Why it Shouldn't

Smartphone design trends come and go, but one trend which has been persistent for the past few years has been the transition to premium materials used in the construction of smartphones. While there was a time when it seemed like every single Android phone was made of plastic, design paradigms have slowly but steadily changed since 2013.

How to Increase the Edge Screen Size on Samsung Galaxy Phones Without Root

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to increase the edge screen size to your liking on your curved-screen Samsung Galaxy phone.

By

While the Edge Screen function on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, S7 Edge, S8, S8+, and Note 8 provides a useful way to to access your favorite apps, tasks, and more, it can be a pain to activate especially since the newer phones are so tall! The size (and recognition area) can be tweaked in Settings, however, the maximum size you can set there is not enough for some users. If you feel like the edge handle is too small on your phone, you can easily change it to a custom value without root or much effort required, thanks to a tutorial originally made by XDA Senior Member Pedroc1999.

Live Message is a neat new feature on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. On the keyboard, you can tap the heart icon and you will be met with a canvas where you can draw with various different pen effects and emoji. It can be sent on any platform that supports an up-to 15 seconds animated GIF file. This is a feature available for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 but not the Samsung Galaxy S8 because it makes use of the S-Pen found on the Note series.
