Samsung DeX is Samsung's desktop experience based on Android that appears when you connect your Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9, or Galaxy Note 9 to a monitor. It allows for multiple windows and apps to be open at once with a special UI designed for a larger desktop screen. Samsung Experience 10 based on Android Pie is almost here for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 and comes with a whole slew of new features. Dockless DeX from the Galaxy Note 9 is one of those new features being brought to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+. This means that all you need is a simple HDMI to USB Type-C cable to use Samsung DeX.

A few weeks ago, we published an article detailing an early beta build of Samsung Experience 10 based on Android Pie for the Snapdragon Samsung Galaxy S9+. The upcoming software release has a lot of design changes with black backgrounds, white cards, and rounded corners throughout the user interface. The abundance of white cards on black backgrounds, in particular, has been a bit polarizing. We mentioned repeatedly that we were showcasing an early beta of unreleased software, and today we have obtained an updated build of Android Pie for the Snapdragon Samsung Galaxy S9 that shows that Samsung is still making tweaks to the design. The most important change in the latest beta is the (mostly) functional Night Theme.

Biometric authentication has taken on new forms in modern smartphones thanks to advancements in imaging and display technology. We now have smartphones capable of precise facial recognition like the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Apple iPhone X. We are also getting smartphones with in-display fingerprint sensors like the Vivo NEX and Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS. Meanwhile, Samsung is reportedly dropping their iris recognition technology in favor of a 3D facial recognition sensor and an in-display fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S10. But even if the Samsung Galaxy S10 marks the company's departure from iris scanners on their flagship phones, it's possible that they may include the feature on one or more of their budget Galaxy offerings this year—possibly a 2018 refresh of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Plus.

On any smartphone running Android 5.0 Lollipop and higher, you may find an option called 'OEM unlocking' in developer options. By toggling this option, you'll get the ability to unlock the bootloader on your device. Unlocking the bootloader lets you install a custom recovery such as TWRP, root your device to access system files, flash custom ROMs, modify the kernel, and much more. If you own the international/Exynos version of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, or Samsung Galaxy S9 and you're missing the OEM unlock toggle, then there's a fix available.

This feature has a lot of potential and it's even more exciting when you can unlock the bootloader on the device. After unlocking, you can flash your favorite recovery, such as TWRP, and start flashing anything you see available for your device. Some models of the Galaxy S9 can have their bootloader unlocked. We have good news for those users.
