Samsung is one of the few OEMs that hasn’t given up on Android tablets yet. The South Korean giant offers a wide selection of tablets spanning multiple price bands, with the Galaxy Tab S lineup positioned as the premier offering and the Galaxy Tab A series delivering a more economical experience. While the flagship Galaxy Tab S8 series is rumored to launch alongside the Galaxy S22, it looks like Samsung may soon introduce a new affordable tablet under the Galaxy Tab A series.

As the foundation of Android 11 is getting finalized, several OEMs are trying to clear their backlogs by pushing stable Android 10 updates to the eligible devices. Samsung, for example, has upgraded a bunch of Galaxy devices, including tablets, to Android 10 with the company's own One UI 2 UI on top in the last few weeks. Two more Samsung devices - the Galaxy J8 and the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 - are now receiving the same treatment across the globe, and LG is extending the same treatment to the LG Q70.

One UI 2.1 is the latest iteration of Samsung's custom skin on top of Android 10, which has recently been rolled out to the Galaxy Tab S4 and the Galaxy Tab S5e. After servicing the premium segment, the company is now bringing Android 10 to its budget tier tablets. Both the 8-inch and the 10.1-inch models of the Galaxy Tab A (2019) lineup have picked up the Android 10 update in different regions, although the One UI 2.1 layer found in these devices might lack a few 'premium’ features.

Android 10 was officially rolled out on September 3rd and was instantly available for the Pixel devices, the Essential Phone PH-1, and the Redmi K20 Pro. OnePlus followed the suit and rolled out the Android 10 update for OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. Making up for the smartphones that have not or are not likely to receive the Android 10 update anytime, the Android development community has thrived hard to create Android 10-based AOSP or Custom ROMs for a long list of devices. Now, five more devices have been added to this list and these include the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (India), Redmi 4X, first-gen Mi Max, Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016), and the Nokia 6.1.

Undeterred by the sliding demand for tablets worldwide, Samsung is moving forth and launching new tablets. The Korean giant launched the entertainment-centric Galaxy Tab S5e around MWC 2019 followed by a more affordable Galaxy Tab A 8" with S-Pen support in March. Now, it appears to be preparing to launch another tablet with entry-level specifications, an 8-inch display with broad bezels, and Android Pie. While the tablet is yet to be launched, its listing on various platforms gives away to the "Galaxy Tab A" moniker.

Tablets sales have been consistently declining over the past few years and the market is expected to get even more challenging due to foldable smartphones. For Android tablets, the situation is much worse as compared to iPads but that is not stopping Samsung from announcing newer tablets. After launching the entertainment-focussed Galaxy Tab S5e last month, Samsung has launched an updated version of its Galaxy Tab A with 4G LTE and support for S Pen.
