The Google Phone app received a new dial pad UI in April this year, featuring bigger buttons and new animations. The updated design included pill-shaped buttons similar to what we previously saw in the redesigned Calculator app, along with some cool new animations. Google is now rolling out a new in-call UI for the Phone app, but it takes a slightly different approach. As per a few screenshots shared by users on Twitter, the new in-call UI features circular buttons instead of the pill-shaped buttons on the dial pad. While the design looks inconsistent, it will likely be more intuitive to use as it brings all the buttons closer to the bottom of the display. In addition, the new UI features a card behind the buttons that adds some contrast for enhanced visibility.

Android 12 Beta 2 is officially here. We have already taken a deep dive into the new software and uncovered all the new features and changes that Google has made since Beta 1. The second beta is a big step forward as it brings many of the marquee features of Android 12 to life that were hidden or work-in-progress in the previous builds. For example, the new privacy dashboard that Google showcased at Google I/O 2021 is now fully functional in Beta 2. In addition, Material Youâs dynamic theming capabilities are also live, along with the new notification redesign and a revamped power menu.
Android 12 prepares to kill off native support for Internet-based SIP calling
Android 12 has removed integrated SIP calling support through the stock dialer and is preparing to remove code from the telephony service.
Session Initiation Protocol, or SIP, is a protocol that's commonly used for making voice calls over the Internet. Years back, SIP clients and providers were decently popular because they offered free or cheap worldwide Internet-based calling while many U.S. carriers still didn't even offer unlimited voice calls on their networks. For years, Android natively supported adding a SIP account and making SIP calls through the default dialer, but it seems that's going away with the Android 12 update.

Have you ever called up a customer care number, dialled in the several access codes as prompted and navigated through cumbersome voice menus, only to hit a wall of prolonged wait times? I have, far too many times, much to my annoyance at the wasted time and the maddening repetitive music. And apparently, Google has too, as Google Assistant's latest Hold For Me feature solves a problem for me that I never knew I needed a solution for.

If you have the Google Phone app installed on a non-Pixel smartphone, you may have noticed a new "Flip to Silence" setting.
Back in April, we spotted a new feature in development for the Google Phone app called "Flip to Silence." This feature is supposed to let users silence the ringtone from an incoming phone call by flipping the phone over. When we examined the code for this feature, we determined that the setting will only show up on devices that don't support Digital Wellbeing's "Flip to Shhh" feature. That means it can only show up on non-Pixel devices with the Google Phone app installed. Today, the setting started to show up for many users, but the feature doesn't seem to actually work just yet.

Google Phone app rolls out Call Recording for some Nokia phone users in India
Google is reportedly rolling out a new call recording feature on the Google Phone app for a few Nokia phone users in India.
The Google Phone app is the default dialer on Google's Pixel devices, Xiaomi phones sold in the EU, and Android One phones like HMD Global's Nokia-branded smartphones. Much like other stock apps from the company, it doesn't offer as many features as other default dialer apps from companies like Xiaomi. This means that Xiaomi users in the EU currently don't have access to features like automatic call recording and flip to silence which are available on the stock MIUI dialer in other regions. Over the last couple of months, however, Google has been working to add new features to its dialer app in an effort to bring it to the same level as some of its competition.
