This happened with the 3.5mm headphone port being removed, it happened again with the notch, and it's happening with the company's AirPods as well. Before the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, it was leaked that the phone would be able to wirelessly charge one of its accessories. That specific accessory was called the Huawei Freebuds 2 Pro and they are very obviously designed around Apple's AirPods.
